  • I have a kitchen diner which is tiled throughout. Looks great and is great for cleaning etc. Tile throughout gets my vote!

Oak floorboards throughout gets my vote - bit costly though

Lino and some laminates can be quite slippy when wet.
  • Tiles and carpet always breaks the room nicely. Also maybe look into the laminates which are a tiled effect. If laid properly looks like a perfectly laid tiled floor at half the price. Dont go for the Homebase lamiante though. Very poor quality. B and poo and Wickes go together nicely though

Satin (not gloss = slippy) tiles do it for me in the kitchen area, and oak would look nice, though a bit over powering if the kitchen has wood doors. Tiles can be cold and hard, so for me it's carpet in the eating area.

thanks all, i quite like the idea of tiles and carpet, isnt there a trip hazard though where you need a metal jointing strip between the two??

I don't think so. The flat I am temporarily renting has some metal strips between carpet and fake wood floors, and though raised I have never tripped.

Not if you use the right trim - something like this http://www.tradepricetiles.co.uk/gold-tile-to-carpet-or-laminate-doorway-strip-900mm.html

Have to say though, tiles all the way through gets my vote! and thats not just cos i sell em, it creates a really spacious feel and is easy to clean.

    Hi

No question keep the same flooring throughout and ideally all the way down the hall to the front door!

Having 2 different flooring materials / colours in the same room is a big no no from a current interior design perspective.

My vote would be either nice big tiles 600 x 600 or Amtico laminate flooring.

    I'm with you.

You might as well have a wall between the two areas if you're putting two different floors down. A kitchen diner is one room and should therefore be treated as one room.
