What colour paint...
In the process of planning redecoration following a rewire. What colour paint do you think would go with plum curtains and other soft furnishings in a bedroom? What colour paint would go with beige curtains and chocolate brown sofa, mirror, dining chairs, bookcase etc... in a lounge/diner Many thanks

Rewire question
We have just bought a house which was built in the 1960s and has not ever been rewired (although a new fuse box has been put in-all be it without an RCD unit). We have instructed an electrician to do what he needs to make the house safe which IMO is a full rewire. However he has now said that the plug sockets are earthed…

Does anyone know if this is available for residential use? The UK website is still up and running but I can't find a price/stockists list. I'm kind of in love with this one (for lounge hallway & bedrooms in 2 bed flat) http://www.armstrong-flooring.co.uk/commflreu/en-gb/item.asp?productLineId=2501&itemId=124151 EDIT --…

Varnish over brushing wax
I've done some googling on this and the general concensus is NO!! Anyway, On a scrap of wood I've tried out some ronseal brushing wax and put a coat of Diamond hard varnish over the top to try and make the finish more hard waring. So far it hasn't lifted or clouded - its been about a week (well two weeks - one week after…

Is there such a thing as something to make running a bath quiet?
My OH had a bath at 5.45am this morning and because he is very absent minded (read:thoughtless) he didnt think to shut the bathroom or bedroom door so I was woken up by the thunder of water running into the bath. Is there something that you can get to go over the tap and go into the water to make the running quiet?

Neighbour issues again appologies if this is the wrong furum part
I shall keep this as brief as possible. Storms in the bad weather created a hole in our fence which we didnt realise till the morning after and next door found our dog on their lawn. Simply they hate dogs and threatened to kill ours if it ever went on their land again. We never have got on and said neighbour is known to…

Need to drill a hole in an outside wall
I'm a complete DIY novice but willing to have a go. After waiting a year for my husband to put an eyelet on the outside of the house so I can have a 2nd washing line I've run out of time and patience. So tonight I've found the eyelet, raw plugs and drill and I'm going to do it myself tomorrow morning! I have a couple of…

B&Q - returning goods
Hi I thought this might be of interest and possibly raise a smile from one or two of you. We were in our local B&Q store today to look at stuff to paint our shed. We noticed some ronseal spray or brush fence covering in the same colour as the shed had been done previously that was reduced to £5 a container. Haha we thought…

In 2008 my parents got a new French door installed in their main bedroom by a local company that was FENSA certified. Carbon Film Underfloor Heating - Running Cost?
Hi all, The house I just bought doesn't have gas fired central heating system, and I think this is a good excuse to install UFH system. After doing some research, I find Carbon Film is cheaper/easier to install compare to other forms of UFH. However, I couldn't find any user reviews on how efficent they are, e.g. how long…

Duraflex vs Profile 22 - which is best?
Hi there - I've had quotes for double glazing and the best ones use either Duraflex and Profile 22 brands. I've been searching forums trying to get a clear answer as to the relative quality of these brands but with no joy. One forum implied Profile 22 was almost as good as Kommerling but find this hard to believe as the…
