Plumbers opinion on bill charge needed please
To try and cut a long story short I have just had my boiler mended, vaillant ecotec plus 824, it needed a new diverter valve they charged me £216.50. The actual work to change the diverter valve took a bit less than an hour and the part was £48 to trade. This time last year the same firm fitted a new part to my shower…

How much is this going to cost me?
Anybody give a rough idea of how much it will cost to get an earth wire put in so I can put up my new light fitting? The light that is there at the moment (left by previous owners) is metal and we thought it would have been earthed as it should be no such luck. I splashed out a bit on my nice new light and now I am worried…

Will a powerpack sort out my issue with getting electric into my garage?
I still need to put some electic in my garage, which is too far from my garage to install a proper mains supply or run an extension lead. I've just seen this item which seems to contain everything I need i.e. 300w power inverter, inbuilt battery, even has lights and it could be used to start my bike if the battery is low.…

are you charged for getting a quote for central heating?
Basically as title, I am thinking of replacing my old warm air heating with radiators and a gas boiler and will be getting at least 3 quotes and have heard that some companies charge you for the quote and then discount it off the cost if you chose them. Is this correct?

Advice needed on pressure in Combi Boiler
I have a Worcester Combi boiler installed about a year ago. I've just noticed that when the heating is off the water/pressure gauge is very low, well into the red area ( < .5 bar) but once the heating is on it comes back into the green (1 - 2 bar). When it was installed the engineer said it should be in the green…

Advise on door protectors please
The heavy double doors to my son's adapted bathroom are heavily sprung, so that they close when he has passed through in his electric wheelchair. This causes wear and damage to the doors at point of contact with the wheelchair. I have fitted metal plates to either side of both doors and this has the desired effect, but do…

Why do my sinks & baths gurgle?
Our house is about 6 years old and this has only started in the last few months but is beginning to drive me mad! Every time we use a tap upstairs the waste pipe gurgles once the water has gone down the pipe. I though it was the u-bend on the sink at first but that is clear. Then I noticed that ALL the upstairs sinks are…

Help neede to find washer and seating sets
I have been struggling with my leaky mixer tap for a while (have also posted here previously about it) but cannot find a permanent solution. Can the blinds improve the temperature in my conservatory?
My lean-to conservatory has a very common problem: hotter during summer and colder during winter. Now, a conservatory blind company told me that I can install their blind in the windows, door and the conservatory roof as well. They say that the blinds would help retain the heat during winter but somehow also help the room…

Washable and hard wearing flooring?
We have three children and two dogs and live next to fields and woods that are currently very muddy, so the floors get filthy with paw prints, mucky children, plus frequent spills. We took up the carpets and replaced them with cheap laminate which has been ok, but it's starting to look tatty in places with corners starting…

Hello All, I have an on the wall gas fire - with fake stones and glass fronted. It only has one button, up for on, down for off. cracks in paintwork
hi I'm just about to redecorate the bathroom and there are currently cracks in the paintwork on both ceiling and walls. What's the best way to prevent the cracks coming back in the new paintwork? I' ve heard that giving a coat of damp seal first before the emulsion might work? Or just rub the cracks down and paint with the…
