The heavy double doors to my son's adapted bathroom are heavily sprung, so that they close when he has passed through in his electric wheelchair. This causes wear and damage to the doors at point of contact with the wheelchair.
I have fitted metal plates to either side of both doors and this has the desired effect, but do not look particularly atrractive.
I would be interested in alternative suggestions. Is acrylic, as used in secondary glazing and greenhouses any good?
Reducing the tension on the springs unfortunately means the doors do not close properly. In warmer weather it is not so much as a problem as the doors can be fixed open.
In hindsight I should have asked the builders to fit electric doors. It may well come to that once the current ones are beyond repair.
Thank you

It does not matter what you fit, you are unlikely to find anything that will not be marked in some way by the passage of the wheel chair..I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -
You could try a plastic material such as used by Acrovyn, Yeomanshield, Intrad, DAWP, Gradus and the like - these are the type of systems used in hospitals and have to deal with impact from trolleys etc all the time. Available in diffent colours so more acceptable in a domestic situation than metal sheet.0
