I have just tried searching for this discussion but can't remember what to click to do the search. I have entered Fridge Freezers in the little box at the top right and Forum for the next small box but what do I click then? I need to buy a FF urgently but there was some very useful info on the thread. One person mentioned…

Would you add a conservatory?
The situation is that we are current a family of 2 adults, 5yr old and 4 yr old in a 1930's 3 bed semi in the SE. House has 2 decent beds and a box room and bathroom upstairs, and hallway, living room, dining room and teeny tiny galley kichen downstairs. There is no scope to extend out the back due to the landscape of the…

Fitting a striped runner on winding stairs - how?
Hi all I was keen to have a Kersaint Cobb Tangier sisal stair runner fitted however a fitter told our carpet supplier that it would be very difficult to get the stripes lined up on the three winders. Is there a secret he soesn't know about, or failing that, would a striped wool carpet be any easier than the sisal? Many…

Betterbathrooms.com - anyone used them?
As in the title - has anyone any knowledge of betterbathrooms.com? I've been on the website looking for a new bathroom suite with a shower bath & screen and their prices seem very cheap. Am I just cynical? Is there a catch? The shower bath & screen I have looked at is £199 and appears to be made to the same spec as others…

How to rescue a house
Okay, I'll start with an apology in case this is the wrong area of the forum, and I'll continue with another apology in case there's a duplicate somewhere. I did do a quick search of the titles and just got something about rescuing a dog, so I do apologise if it's already here somewhere ... We live in a terrace of 8 houses…

Driveway problem
The drive to my house is on quite a steep decline, never really been a problem until the council decided to renew the pavement all the way down our street a couple of years ago. It looked all nice and tidy but when it came to getting my car in the drive......it stuck at the top where the pavement meets my drive. I got the…

Help! My roller blind won't roll up.
My bathroom roller blind is happy to roll down, but the mechanism seems to be stuck for rolling back up. It has one of those plastic chain-type pulleys. I have taken the blind down and have been fiddling with the mechanism and it only wants to go one way. I have been looking on-line to see if I can find a site somewhere to…

Hello I wonder if anyone can help? I have googled this, but find conflicting advice on the benefits. Can anyone help please? Thank you

Painting stained drawers
I have been lucky enough to get a small chest of drawers from a kind lady on freecycle. My plan is to paint these drawers white but they look to be pine with an antique stain. If you close your eyes and feel the wood, there is no feel to the stain and it is not shiny, it looks like the kind of stain that soaks in iyswim.…

Burglar Alarm Recommendations
Hi, I am having my house gutted at the moment and would like to install a burglar alarm system. I have rang a couple of local firms and have had quotes ranging from £800-1000, along with maintenance prices of £90-120 per year on top! I find this very pricey as I have gone through the quotes and searched for these items on…

I've recenttly rediscovered a chimney and it seems reusable. I'd like to put in a proper real coal fire but I don't know where to get one from.
