Fitting a striped runner on winding stairs - how?

Hi all
I was keen to have a Kersaint Cobb Tangier sisal stair runner fitted however a fitter told our carpet supplier that it would be very difficult to get the stripes lined up on the three winders.
Is there a secret he soesn't know about, or failing that, would a striped wool carpet be any easier than the sisal?
Many thanks
Michelle

My parents have a massive staircase with runner to the top which curves 90 degrees! Definitely possible!0

It can be done, but its a difficult job apparently, has to be cut and sewn.
I have a Kersaint cobb Moroccan runner sitting here beside me ready to go on the stairs on monday, I have two stairs that wind round, I will let you know how the fitter gets on.........Gulp! If it cant be fitted ebay it is! I so Hope it can as it will look lovely.Pawpurrs x0 -
If your fitter says he can't do it, get another fitter. It's more tricky than fitting a square room, but is still possible. Depending on the construction of the stair, the tread is fitted, then the riser. Or all the treads then all the risers. You don't use one piece on the tread and riser. At least, that's what my other half did on our stair, he's a fitter and moaned when I pointed out what I wanted, but after some accurate measuring and cutting, I have a great stair. There is no sewing as you only cut the width, and the cut width is tucked (and poss pinned) in to the stair itself.0

I was looking at getting a striped runner and I was advised that the stripes look wonky on the tread after a while as the carpet wears on the nose. He showed me a carpet in the staff area of the store and the stripes were indeed wonky on the nose of the treads. Anyone had experience of this?0

Thanks everyone - definitely some things to think about. The striped runners look so nice in all the home magazines but they never tell you they are better for a straight run of stairs. Will be interested to see how pawpurrs gets on...0
