Homecare 400 & kitchen taps
My kitchen taps have become very stiff. The taps are made by Franke and I believe they take cartridges so the cartridges need replacing. Would the Homecare 400 agreement cover "repairing" the taps? Thanks.

Moving furniture in restricted space!
I bought a wardrobe a couple of months ago (flatpack) which my dad has assembled for me today. I measured the wardrobe and the space I wanted it in and it was fine, only an inch or so to play with, but it would fit in that space. Stupidly I didn't think about the radiator pipe that is now in the way :( My dad text me…

New loft hatch needed over sagging lathe and plaster ceiling.
I'm wondering the best way to go about this. The ceiling is bowed but does not seem to move even when you push it fairly hard. We need to fit a new loft hatch as the one we currently have is silly and nobody can get into the loft when holding anything. Unfortunately the ceiling is our landing one so it's quite high up. If…

Painting new plastered rooms
I know this question has been asked before, but I am still unclear on the answer for my situation. I have some newly plastered rooms (ceiling and walls) that need painting. All plastering is on top of plasterboard. I have never painted on newly plastered walls so have some questions. I was intending for the top coats to be…

Rising Damp? Myth?
We are in the process of buying a 3-bed semi detached which has solid floors downstairs/timber upstairs that has been surveyed by a RICS approved surveyor. This includes a detailed survey of all things related to the house. They go crazy on it! One big thing that the house was pulled on was possible rising damp. (condition…

Poor service from Darlings of Chelsea
Let this be a warning for others buying furniture online. I did a lot of research to find some nice wooden furniture for the lounge and this one really stood out. I went to their Fulham showroom to have a look, saw a piece as an example and loved the quality. It's now been 3.5 months since I placed my order. Haven't seen…

Has my fridge freezer had it, or is there life in the old dog yet?
We bought our fridge freezer 10 years ago for £125. It has been great until the last few years when it seems to have got worse. Sometimes you open it and the stuff at the top is ok but the stuff at the bottom (usually salad) is frozen, sometimes it is all a bit warmer than expected and everything is wet (a bit like when…

Is this quote for new windows fair?
Hello, I am hoping someone can give me some advice regarding replacement double glazing. I have received a quote for georgian style PVC double glazed sash windows. The price averages £750 per window. The same company has quoted £2000 to supply and fit an aluminium 2 panel double glazed folding/sliding door (£1800 in PVC).…

Can you slab over slabs?
I have nasty utility slabs in my back garden. Whole garden is being redesigned and stripped back to start again. Rather than have to lift all the existing slabs, can they be slabbed over with nice ones? The garden level is too low anyway, it needs built up a little so the extra height would help rather than hinder. One…

how many hinges on a door?
might seem like a pointless question, but I've noticed that hinges are usually sold in 3's. I'm replacing white moulded doors (2 hinges) with oak veneered (hardwood core) with glass panels. These are heavier than the old ones, so should I use 3 hinges? I'm also considering using self closing hinges (spring type) and these…

Part-fitting and sprucing up a kitchen
We are hoping to have a new kitchen and are trying to keep costs to a minimum. We were thinking of keeping the old carcasses and replacing the fronts, work surface and sink (cupboards are fine on the inside and in general are well placed) but are hitting a few problems as our old gas cooker is fitted awkwardly in a corner…
