Kicthen re-vamp... on the cheap!
Our kitchen is desperately old and dreary and the dark wood and stained white work surfaces are dying for a re-vamp! Also, the sink unit is stained and the tap is constantly dripping and can only be fixed through a re-fit. Sadly, we can't afford a total re-fit so I'm thinking of a bit of a makeover where we buy a new…

Advice on where a gas cooker can be sited in a room.

Insulation for an attic ceiling – not exposed roof
Hi all, hope there are some suggestions out there. I have a Victorian house which has always had a room in the attic – it is not a conversion. In the summer the sun beats on the slates and the heat comes straight into the bedroom, as there is precious little insulation between the slates and the internal ceiling: the room…

Is it a big/messy job to add kitchen cabinet lighting?
I should have sussed this out before my kitchen was plastered and painted, but unfortunately I didn't. If I've still to put up wall cabinets, will it be quite easy (for an electrician) to wire up some cabinet lights without messing up the walls too much? Possibly even do it behind where the cabinets will be? I don't mind…

Warning! Beware conning invoices & debt demands
Don't pay if you receive an invoice instead of a quote Sending an unwarranted invoice or demand for cash in the post is a nasty trick, as many assume they need pay up. Typical scenario: It could be a private parking ticket you didn't warrant, or an offer to list your small biz in an advertising directory, where you agree…
