smelly drains

My daughter just moved to a new house, and has a problem with the drains. When she empties the bath theres a smell of drains in the back of the house. Is there any way to disguise the smell or cancel it out somehow ? Not possible to do anything re actual drains as its a private let and a very old house.

    Hi mardatha,

This earlier thread has some ideas that may help:

    Help Smelly outside drain

You should get more advice from the experts on the In my home (includes DIY) MoneySaving board so I'll move your thread over there to see if they can help once you've had some more replies here.

    mardatha,

If it's really stinky and clogged or just generally very yukky then I would consider using caustic soda. You can get it in most DIY shops - even B&Q and Wilkinsons sell it. I use this in my handmade soaps and have to wear gloves and goggles when dealing with it as it is very very caustic stuff and can cause nasty burns if not treated with respect.

I'm sure if you used some of that, following the instructions, your problem would be solved :D

Sounds like the drains need rodding out but in the meantime I would use soda crystals with boiling water
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light
