Fake wall for toilet sink?
Hi In the bathroom I'm thinking of having a back to wall toilet and sink/vanity unit. Instead of building a full height fake wall I though it would be good to make it, e.g. half height and then incorporate a shelf into the top. A partial reason for doing this is that there is already some boxing along the base of the wall…

Removing paint from wood work
Firstly, I am a wee bit affronted that I don't know how to do this, but I am rubbish at DIY stuff and try to avoid it by all costs! My ex painted the bathroom a few years ago, and didnt mask off the woodwork round the door, window etc (that should have been a sign of what a twit he was, even I know that you mask stuff…

Miele S4000 series vacuum cleaners
Hi, I want to buy a new Miele vacuum cleaner, a small lightweight model from the S4000 series. I am looking for feedback from anyone who has a model from this range. Birds nesting in our wall
Hi We have a grating in our bedroom wall, quite high up, above the top of the built-in wardrobe. On the other side of it is a pipe protruding from the wall. Some birds have started to get in there. What is supposed to be on the other side of a grating? Having an open pipe seems odd to me, there should be something on the…

Replacement shower hose leaking!
I have just replaced the hose for my shower (something I have done several times before without any problems), but this time water is escaping from the bottom of the connector which screws onto the water outlet. I have used the new washers supplied with the hose and have swopped ends but to no avail. The hose was from a…

My New Ikea Kitchen Design - Critique Appreciated
Here is the layout I have come up with for my new kitchen I'm planning. I'd love to hear people's thoughts opinions on the design and layout. Also for a room this size what would be the best way to light it? I'd like recessed GU10 230v mains downlighters as I intend to replace with GU10 compatible LED units in the future…

Minimum Spend To Redecorate
Morning Folks As our buckles are quite tight at the moment, I wondered what was the cheapest you'd ever made over your room for in your house? I'd quite like to completely change my lounge, but can't afford to do the whole lot like new furniture etc and my leather suite is quite old now, although it's very, very comfy!…

Draughtproofing UPVC Windows
Anyone know any good-looking and inexpensive ways of draughtproofing UPVC windows that are not perfectly draught-free? We are 200 ft above sea level in the north of Scotland. In our previous house we got C R Smith to fit windows - we're missing them here. The firm that made/fitted the ones in our current house have gone…
