Fake wall for toilet sink?

Options
Hi

In the bathroom I'm thinking of having a back to wall toilet and sink/vanity unit. Instead of building a full height fake wall I though it would be good to make it, e.g. half height and then incorporate a shelf into the top. A partial reason for doing this is that there is already some boxing along the base of the wall edge and this new half height wall will cover that.

Would I be correct in assuming this should be constructed ideally like a stud partition wall, with plaster, etc? In the cloakroom I see the equivalent (behind the toilet) is done with MDF and the shelf is removable to gain access to the piping, cistern etc. Would similar access need to be afforded in my case?

Thanks for any advice/thoughts.

    yes thats ok.
stud work and PB, MDF or plywood is the normal way. aquapanel or marine ply would be even better due to the water in the bathroom.

be aware that access can be tight to all the connections.

I used 50mm x50mm framing and removable shelf and front panel made from MDF, which was painted. It has worked very well for the last 13 years. Absolutely no problems with moisture, but we do have a large extractor fan, and we do not get any condensation in any case.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

Thanks, the reason I was considering the plaster route is i'd like to keep the look consistent where possible. So a removable shelf would be mandatory then?

fake walls usually have access panels behind the real wall.
or removable panels. with quick release fixings.
access is important for the installation and or any future maintainance.
