Curtain battens
I need new curtain rails for the Lounge and the bedroom and am thinking of putting up curtain battens, not sure if it is worth the bother though. Any thoughts on the advantages of having them? I've got all the tools, so would just need to buy the materials and paint. Ready primed wood would be easier.

Gloss paint on walls :-(
For some reason known only to themselves the previous owners of my house painted a lot of the interior walls (and some of the exterior york stone) with pink gloss paint. I'm guessing they used gloss because it's lime plastered, and it was either damp (though there is no evidence of this) or they mistook the natural…

Made to measure curtains with wrong lining?
I ordered some made to measure curtains from a website (huge savings on high street prices!) and they arrived today. I specified black out lining but as soon as I took them out of the packaging I though the lining didn't look like any black out lining I'd seen before. I hung one and I might as well hang a cotton hankie for…

Garden Fence - Whose Responsibility?
A fence panel in our garden had broken and needs replacing. I am happy to go 50:50 with my neighbour on the repair but I think they would like to establish if either of us has responsibility for the fence. I still have the documentation from when we bought the house but the title plan does not indicate who is responsible…

Ceiling Board?
Hi, I've noticed that in my fathers shop it gets quite dusty, and quite a lot of dust seems to be coming from the ceiling - which is a wooden boarded ceiling, in a bit of a state. Uneven boards and quite a lot of large gaps between boards - you can even see the dust sneaking through! [I know this isn't the only source of…

Stanley toolbox spares
Does anyone know where to get a spare bit for my toolbox please? It's the metal clip that holds the lid down, bit difficult to explain, its this style toolbox http://www.toolbox.co.uk/faithfull-650mm-metal-tool-3848-69675 and it's the bit of shaped rounded rod that goes over the lids catch and holds it down. I bought the…

Damp Proof
Hi all I have recently purchased a house built in the 1860's. The survey said there was inidications of damp & wood worm. The house had been empty for about 9 months now, as it is a repossession. I had a remidial company have a look at it & they said there was evidence of a previous chemical damp proof injection however…

Cross bracing for loft flooring?
In the loft we have joists 75x50mm at 350mm spacing. We're looking to strengthen the floor and maintain the thickness of insulation. We'd like to use this for storage space not a full loft conversion... yet! Would cross bracing of the same dimension and spacing be suitable for this?
