Frosted glass on bathroom window
Hi, Just got new double glazing and its excellent but one wee problem. It seems that you can still see through the frosted glass in the bathroom window. This wasn't what we expected - is this something we should have thought of or should we complain ? Thanks.

Fitted Double Oven
Our old Neff fitted double electric oven seems to be on it's last legs and I am shopping around for a replacement. We went to John Lewis to have a look around and the salesman was very pro Neff ovens. In particular he spoke highly of them being triple glazed, the doors being sealed units (top and bottom) so no steam or…

Kitchen worktop - is walnut worth it?
It's my first time on here, so please be gentle... I'm renovating my kitchen on a fairly tight budget. I'd love wood for the worktops but I'm worried that it will rot round the sink and stain (I've been there before). I'm willing to spend a bit more in exchange for quality and durability. My question is, is American black…

As soon as it gets warm enough I love having my front door open all day. Only problems are insects (well moths yuck) mean I have to close the door as soon as it starts getting dark, and we now have a dog who wanders away if the door is open. Clearing blocked water tube on boiler...
Hi, The "water out" pipe on our boiler seems to be repeatedly blocked, causing water to flood the bottom of our boiler and causing it to turn off. Once dry, everything works, but then it just floods again. So, my question: how can I clean the thick plastic bendy pipe that appears to be clogged? It's behind all the fitted…

Project managing an extension
Hi everyone! I've had estimates from buliders to build the shell of my extension and also quotes from trades (groundworkers, brickies, carpenters etc) do do their own bits. At the moment it's looking like it will be between £12-15k cheaper to employ particular trades rather than get a builder to take care of the lot. I'm…

Concealing Pipework
We've just finished redecorating our hallway and want to cover up the central heating pipes which run behind the door. I need to have a fairly slimline solution to cover two parallel 15mm pipes as the maximum it can come out from the wall is about 28 mm. There are also a couple of 90 degree bends around a door lintel. My…

Baxi, Potterton, Vaillant, Worcester - which one is most reliable?
I am going to replace my boiler. At the moment I have very old Potterton Ultra 2 with unvented cylinder. It does not work very well and I hate the fact that I need to wait a hour for water to heat and then it disappears very quickly. I want to remove unvented cylinder and replace conventional boiler with combi boiler.…

Ladders
I know what an exciting topic. My house needs re-decorating from top to bottom so need ladder. I thought I would get a a nice new ladder we have a 3-in-1. But I not keen as I don't really feel safe up a ladder at the best of times. B & Q do a 10-in-1 for £60 I thought that might be better and it folds up really small so I…

Glow worm 18 Hxi condensing boiler leaking from heat exchanger
Hi all, I'm pretty clueless when it comes to the internals of boilers, so was wondering if anyone could help: My boiler has just started leaking this evening, the leak stops when the unit is turned off but re-starts within about a minute of turning it back on, it appears to be dripping down the chassis. I've taken the…

Spotlight bulbs blowing
I had a light fitting in my kitchen with 6 spotlight bulbs on it. The bulbs were blowing about 2 per month so I got it replaced as I thought it was faulty. A bulb has blown in the new fitting after just 10 days. Can anyone suggest a reason why this might be happening. Could the wiring in my house be at fault? I previously…
