repair costs (replace roof, rewire, dpc etc.)

Hi all,

Just had a survey done on a house (small 3 bed semi), it has highlighted a number of essential repairs needed. They include:

re-roof (the roof is 2 sides, very simple eg. /\
upgrade electronics (rewire)
solid floor (in hall and kitchen) is defective (maybe damp?)
eradicate damp (rising damp in ground floor walls, chemical dpc needed)

The surveyor estimated the costs of repair at £7k. Is this a realistic figure?

It is not really feasible to give prices. All jobs have different problems, which will only be apparent to the person doing the quotation. You have to find out what the individual quotes are and take it from there. You do not have to accept any of them, if you think that they are too high. No one can really give a realistic price without seeing the job. The figure that the surveyor mentioned is an estimate. What you require is a quote, not an estimate. The surveyors figure can never be more than a ball park figure.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.
