Spot light brackets/clips

Hi

I have had to replace a few spot lights ta my place but they usually come with some sort of bracket/clip that helps attach the light into the ceiling. Any idea of what this clip is called and where I would get one from? Went to B&Q and they dont sell them

I have left photos here to show the light and you can just see the bracket

I know the things you mean, and can't say I've ever seen them sold separately.

One thing to be aware of is that you need to be careful if you have a thicker than standard ceiling.

A few years ago, I covered up an old ceiling with tongue 'n' groove panelling. Unfortunately, when I came to fit the spotlights, the brackets couldn't cope - between the original lath and plaster ceiling, battens and the T&G it was probably the best part of a couple of inches.

I ended up calling on the bodger's friend, mastic sealant. A big glob and some tape whilst it dried, and Bob was my uncle.

If you are the poor soul who bought my house and cursed me when you had to change a halogen bulb in the bathroom, please accept my belated apologies.
  • The "brackets" that hold the light housing in the hole in the ceiling are specific to the light being installed. You cannot buy them seperately

There are usually two wire attachments that have 2 protrusions, one long and one short. The long one goes through the ceiling hole and the short one stays the painted side of the ceiling. You then simply push the light up.

If you happen to be talking about the clip that holds the bulb in thlight fitting then these are generally all the same but you cannot buy them on their own.

If you are missing something then it should have come with your new lights.

    re the spring clips.
ive never seen them for sale on their own, but ask any shop (and office) fitter for some used spares. they replace these things all the time.
a large shop will have literally hundreds of em.
