Glow worm 18 Hxi condensing boiler leaking from heat exchanger

Hi all,
I'm pretty clueless when it comes to the internals of boilers, so was wondering if anyone could help:
My boiler has just started leaking this evening, the leak stops when the unit is turned off but re-starts within about a minute of turning it back on, it appears to be dripping down the chassis.
I've taken the casing panel and the inner casing panel off and it appears to be dripping from the bottom of the heat exchanger from the seal between the heat exchanger housing and the combustion chamber front plate.
I'm nervous about going any further in, so my question is: does this sound like a major problem or something relatively minor? .... or more to the point, would I be better calling a plumber out and paying by the hour and for parts, or would british gas' fixed rate repair of £192 all in be a safer bet?
Any advise?
Cheers,
Chris

I'm not aware of this, but that sounds like a good idea if you're pretty sure the boiler has a fairly major problem.
Trouble is with BG, they'll probably dream up a load of other faults with your boiler and say it needs to be replaced... which will cost you about £4000 no doubt.
Ask around friends and family for a recommended heating engineer in your area - could be the best way of getting a decent repair done at a reasonable price.0 -
Thanks,
I spoke to BG last night, they had 3 options:
Pay £192 for the all in price
Pay £29 a month for their full service agreement
Pay £2 a month for their next day priority service, then pay £127 for each repair.
I went for the 3rd option, so even if I never use it again and cancel after a year I'll have paid £151.... so still a £51 saving over their one off charge.
Just waiting for the technician to turn up sometime between 1PM and 6PM :whistle:0
