DG Window Handles - Key Lost
Good evening all My former tenants have lost the keys for my DG windows. One of the handles is locked and cannot easily be replaced..... ....unless any MSEers know a cunning way to remove the handle without resorting to drills and angle grinders! :) GG

Recommendations for where to get new 900mm kitchen cupboards
Operative word here is 900mm! I can see lots of places that sell 720mm kitchen cupboards, but very few that sell 900mm. As our current kitchen has 900mm it seems a step down to go to 720mm. We live in Surrey, would appreciate any recommendations. Thx!

frost free fridge freezer - but freezer needs defrosting
This is really annoying. We bought a brand new frost free fridge freezer. (Mostly) all was well - until the wife called me up and work complaining she spent 2 hours chipping all the ice that had built up in the freezer. Got Bosch in to check. They found nothing wrong. And charged nearly £70 for the privilege!

Marks and Spencers Sofa codes - What do they mean?
Hi all Thought I'd take advantage of the sales and buy a sofa bed to try and make some room in the spare room (with all the junk I've got, I need all the space I can get)! Anyway, off to M&S sale as they've got up to 50% off some sofas, but can I make head or tail of the codes on the website? No chance. Anyone got any idea…

Problems with garden elec circuit RCD
Can anyone help me on this? We recently had an outside mains socket installed, plus wired into a 12V transformer for outside lighting circuit. It is all off an RCD in the kitchen, which now (started over last few days) keeps tripping within a minute or so of being turned on. Worked fine for last few months. We have had…

Products for sealing a window
Can i use any products myself to seal the edge of a window? Basically the double glazed window in the main bedroom at both bottom corners is extremely damp. The window faces the front of the property, i seem to think the wallpaper isn't helping as the front window is fine (lounge is painted, no wallpaper at all). I was…

Replacing radiator with towel rail.
I wish to replace the radiator in our bathroom with a heated towel rail. The present radiator is supplied by 10mm pipes that have been routed behind the drylining and exit through the skirting. My plan is to remove the radiator and then remove some of the plasterboard to access the feed pipes and adjust them so that the…

Cheapest Laminate Flooring Hunt
Need to cover a living room and dining area of approx 24 square meters with some (hopefully) tasteful wood/effect flooring. Not bothered about brand, type or longeviety as it's a rental property we are moving into that has a scummy carpet. Don't worry MSE'ers, we negotiated a reduced rent! If you see something suitable out…

Please help me find...
This is what I'm looking for - it's a pack of circular pieces of fabric, impregnated with plaster. You soak them, wrap it round a wall plug and push the plug into the wall, where it makes a solid bond - great for those times when the hole you've drilled is too wide for the wall plug and it keeps falling out. Does anyone…

Any recommendations for a new Vacuum???
I am wanting to get a new Vacuum Cleaner, upright, and bagless. My old Dyson is still going although it looks like it has been living in a war zone, bless him, he looks tatty and his wheel keeps dropping off, and now the flex is dicky, so I thought, hmm, january sales, good time to invest in a new hunky model with some…

Plumbing Courses
Hi there. I'm considering enrolling on a Plumbing Course in the New Year with a company called New Career Skills. Essentially the course would take about 3 to 4 months to complete. I'd like to know if anybody has done a Plumbing Course with these people, and if so, any good? Also, does anybody know if these skills would be…

Why can't energy saving light bulbs be fitted with timers?
Hi as a newbie I hope i'm in the right place! But could any of you bright sparks out there tell me why it is that an energy saving light bulb shouldn't be fitted to a light that uses a timer to switch it on and off? As far as I can see the timer just acts as a manual switch to turn the light on and off at pre-determined…

Help ... oven settings
Oh dear, M-i-L in a tizz with my oven. Its a cheap one, electric, built in, bought from B&Q 3 years ago. There are two dials, the one on the left sets the temperature, the one on the right has four settings (clockwise clicks, no pictures or numbers, just a dot). I always use it on one click, F-i-L put it on four clicks…

Electrical Appliances - Energy Ratings
Is there any way of quantifying the amount of energy saved by using higher rated (ie 'A' as opposed to 'B') electrical appliances, and hence how much money is saved? Is it worth buying a better energy rated appliance at a higher cost? As an example, I have just bought a new washing machine, rated 'A+' replacing one rated…

should cupboards with gas meters smell of gas at all?
Hi, Our gas meter is in the larder in the kitchen. When i open the larder door i notice a slight (but not overpowering) smell of gas. It seems to smell more when it's colder - though this could just be coincidence and depend on when i last open the larder door. On closer investigation i noticed if i put my finger on the…
