Cheapest Laminate Flooring Hunt

Need to cover a living room and dining area of approx 24 square meters with some (hopefully) tasteful wood/effect flooring. Not bothered about brand, type or longeviety as it's a rental property we are moving into that has a scummy carpet. Don't worry MSE'ers, we negotiated a reduced rent!
If you see something suitable out there whilst bargain hunting then let us know.
Cheers, and a very happy new year to all.

Out of curiosity, do you have to buy the flooring or will your landlord to be paid back?
I ask, as if they run it as a bonafide business, they make be able to claim the tax back that you would pay on the flooring - thus saving you this money.
If you're going purely on cheapest cost, look at Glynn Webb.
I'd recommend Howdens for a higher spec. One hundred years from now it won't matter what kind of car I drove, what kind of house I lived in, how much money I had in the bank, nor what my clothes looked like but the world may be a little better because, I was important in the life of a child.0 -
dont buy the cheapest it will have a woodchip base slightest spill and it will put up so will actually end up more expensive because you will have to do the flooring at least twice there will by a cheap 1 with a mdf base worth the extra £1or so per square meter0

Hizz- We are buying the flooring and laying it ourselves but nice idea RE the tax break. Is Howdens a trade only business? Do you need to register to buy there? Are they loads cheaper?
The B and Q option sounds good. FSC certified so I can sleep at night! Is it on their website or just in store? I could only find far more expensive stuff but would like to take advantage of the Quidco discount.

Howdens is a trade based business. Either find a joiner or kitchen fitter with an account OR go in and explain, as more often than not they'll put it through as a cash sale. It's good stuff though.
I've fitted lots of laminate flooring and wouldn't have it given (honestly) but fully agree on the MDF base as opposed to chipboard.
If you're going for the B & Q option, don't forget to take an over 60 year old on a Wednesday for the 10% saving. One hundred years from now it won't matter what kind of car I drove, what kind of house I lived in, how much money I had in the bank, nor what my clothes looked like but the world may be a little better because, I was important in the life of a child.0 -
hi there,
i got some a couple of months ago from a seller on e bay called woodfibreuk
it comes direct from the manufacturer and even after the delivery charge my tile effect worked out cheaper than anywhere else.
best of all we didn't have to carry it.
hope this helps.

I can see why you want the cheapest for the rental property but for my own house would pay the bit (well lot, ish) extra and have real wood. I laid B&Q click system in my playroom and whilst it was dead easy - finished in a day and looks OK - it has a cold feel about it and make a dreadful clatter it things are dropped. In the lounge we have real wood, oak strip, and it has a warmth about it and when things are dropped the noise does not go right through me. I wish I had paid the extra £60 or so.
PS I thought because the laminate was cheap from B&Q it would soon need replacing but I can honestly say that after 3 years of quite hard use it is still in excellent condition so I can't justify dumping it yet.Love living in a village in the country side0 -
Homebase has a pretty good option in their sale at the moment. (£7.02 per sq m)
We bought 18 packs of Fast Fix 15 in Wickes yesterday as we want it to last and this is categorised as heavy domestic and light commercial use. We're also hopeful that textured will be less slippery. :j0 -
Ah, funny you should mention the Wickes flooring as I've got my eye on the Fast fix 10 at only 4.29 psqm. Was there any particular reason for not choosing it? Let us know how you get on with it.
Cheers,

John,
We have 3 big dogs and didn't fancy them doing Bambi impressions on smooth laminate!!
Also Fast Fix 15 is 8mm......and size IS everything in a woman's world!!! :rotfl:
Just a little gutted tonight to find out its going to cost another £330 to fit  (21' x 12' lounge/diner & 7' x 4' hallway)0
