Multifuel Stove - In or Out ?
I have a Morso multifuel inset stove fitted into the chimney breast (no space around it). Our local fire shop has advised that we can buy legs for this particular model and have it free standing. I would like to take the stove out of the chimney breast and position it in a stand alone position (same room) with a vent back…

The mysteries of Window Boards
I am shortly to move house, the new place was built around 1930 and to be honest the Window Boards are skanky and desperately need replacing, how were they fixed in those days, and should I make some kind of cavity closer when I change them. I have only ever done them on solid walled houses and usually use a little…

Plumbing problem - little water pressure in bath tub taps!
Had a plumber round and somehow he has managed to mess up the water pressure to the cold taps in the bath. The bath is upstairs and was previously supplied with 22mm cold and hot water pipes. The plumber moved the pipes around and has now made these 15mm and i think this could be the cause? However, the hot water is very…

What is the best kind of floor to have? Solid or suspended wood?
We have bought a victorian terrace that has been messed about quite a bit. I pulled up the horrible flooring in the basement kitchen to find a section of solid floor with victorian ceramic tiles (though with a concrete leveler scree on top) and the rest plywood on wooden joists. The original joists are rotten and the…

My husband has a company fitting garage doors. He fitted on yesterday while the customer was at work and posted the keys and invoice through the door. He has since had a phonecall this afternoon, to say that there is a scratch on it! It was perfect when he left there over 24 hours ago! He usually returns on the evening to…

Why does it smell and what do you do to make any smell go away?. Mine is fairly new (6 months old) and I ALWAYS rinse the dishes before putting them in the dishwasher – so there is no food residuals in there. However it is starting to make a smell now when you open them. What can you do?
