Multifuel Stove - In or Out ?

I have a Morso multifuel inset stove fitted into the chimney breast (no space around it). Our local fire shop has advised that we can buy legs for this particular model and have it free standing.
I would like to take the stove out of the chimney breast and position it in a stand alone position (same room) with a vent back in to the chimney breast.
Will the stove give off more heat in a stand alone position than as an inset? Does the heat from the side and top make that much difference?
The work is not cheap, so I wan't to see if it is worth it.
Thanks.

It depends on its construction. If it heats hot water to run in a central heating system then you need to ask yourself how the backboiler is integrated into the stove. The data sheet will tell you how many KW is given to te room and how many is given to the primary/CH circuit.
We have a waterford erin that has its back boiler at the back and at the sides. It doesn't give out much heat to the room because of the design. Hence putting it in the middle of the room would not gain very much.

Thanks, the stove is purely for heating the room, there is no back boiler involved.Mark Hughes' blue and white army0

We have a freestanding woodburning stove. I was always under the impression that a freestanding one gives out a lot more heat than an inset but I haven't got facts to back that up.
What I can say is that ours can throw out a phenomenal amount of heat given the chance!
Even just burning gently you can feel such a lot of heat coming from the body of the stove. Surely a considerable proportion goes up the chinmney if inset?
Perhaps if you contacted Morso they could give you some data?0 -
I think you're right, I would be surprised if it did'nt make a difference. Your thought's are much appreciated.Mark Hughes' blue and white army0
