New boiler installation - help!

I've not long moved into a 2 bedroom 1950's built property which needs considerable work carrying out. There is currently a baxi back boiler but this needs replacing. I am looking to get either a condensing or combi boiler. The radiators and everything seem to be working fine.

Would anyone be able to tell me approximately how much I'm looking at to get a new boiler installed (I'll be buying the boiler myself) and whether or not I'll need a power flush? I'm hoping to do the work as cheaply as possible as the house also needs a rewire/new kitchen/bathroom etc etc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Having recently asked this question when I last had my boiler serviced, the answer was around £2000. That was to replace a wall mounted balanced flue boiler with a wall mounted condensing boiler. You may be looking a more as you are replacing a back boiler with a wall mounted boiler. More pipe work required. The cost for a combi would be more as the boiler is likely to be more expensive, and there may be extra pipework to be done.

On the subject of a power flush, not having it done is likey to be a false economy. I even believe not having it done may invalidate the guarentee on the new boiler.

    Hi Sarahw,
I've just had a quote done for two new boilers, central heating and radiators in two flats and that has come to just under 4k, parts and labour. Get three quotes, ideally from people who are recommended to you and you should get a fair price. It may be worth sourcing the boiler yourself and then you will only have to pay for your corgi engineer. There are a few programmes subsidised by the government for residential use where boilers are discounted. If you get in touch with your energy saving centre they should point you in the direction. I think one of the schemes is called the Magic Boiler scheme. They only supply the boiler, so I think it is all above board (and they are not making money from charging high labout costs) and it is a way of encouraging everyone to convert to more enegy efficient boilers. Good luck!

You have no choice on wether it is a condensing or not. The law now states all new boilers fitted must be condensing. You may find that some engineers refuse to fit a supplied boiler due to possible delays should the boiler prove faulty. Good luck with your renovation project. Where are you in the UK?
