I am hoping that my beloved dyson is not on its way out , but it is not picking up as well as it used to. I have checked the brush and had a look in the pipes which seem clear . Anyone got any ideas what it could be ??? Is it a sign that it is dying??

I have the DC05 which had the same problem - until I found I had accidentally discarded the large plastic thing (sorry I don't know what's it's called) that sits in the dust collection receptacle.
This forms the seal to aid suction. Once I got a replacement all was ok again.0 -
Did you wash the round blue filter? That should help.0

Wish I could help here. I have a DC03 which a while back did lose some suction. I can't remember exactly what I did - I think I just pulled apart whatever was easy to do and did find the tubing was blocked up somewhere it couldn't be easily seen.
Blockage was my fault. I'd had it vaccing up a huge amount of debris and dust from some major DIY.
So check your tubes where you can't see them. Unscrew a few screws - but remember how it all goes back together. . .:)Where now?0 -
They last for ever, it will just be blocked somewhere. Take it to bits and it will be fine. I have heard that their support team are good if you call them, they will talk you through a check list of things. Worth a try.0

check the filter as said before... should sort things... also the brushes and as many bits as you can take off.
mine died however, i don't beleive they last forever0 -
I know they can die, only Bruce Forsythe has found the secret of eternal life.
But they don't just wither away, if the suction has dropped off it surely can be DIY repaired.0 -
As previous posts, mine did this - after the filter was cleaned full suction was back again.
To get to the filter...
1. Take off the front section (with clear waste bit)
2. Just above the clip for the bin and below the curved handle, there is a button that you press (mine has a picture of the filter).
3. the top of the front section should hinge back giving access to the filter.
4. Pull out and Clean it under a tap and leave to dry naturally
5. Put it back in.
6. Try it out.
Don't forget to post back with results!0 -
Thanks for this. I had the same problem yesterday - no suction. I took it apart to check for blockages but found nothing and was resigned to taking it to my local shop for them to sort out. Have now washed filter and left to dry. I'll let you know how it goes. They're amazing machines - the way you can take them apart and put it all back together again.Books - the original virtual reality.

How old is it? A year or so after we bought our Dyson we started having suction problems. I rang the Dyson helpline, and they sent someone out a couple of days later for free, who repaired it for free. It was an excellent service I was very impressed.0
