Chimney breast removal cost
I'd like to have a chimney breast removed in a bedroom. It's across a corner of the room - weird, don't ask :D . Width is about a metre and at an angle to a loadbearing wall on one side but not the other and the property is a bungalow. I imagine it will need to be RSJ'd, floored, ceiling'd, plastered, skirting'd. Can any…

wet room vs shower tray & screen
we are havng an extension built that will include a toilet & shower off the new utility room. Will house heat up quicker if I turn the boiler temp up?
Hi guys I'm gradually getting to grips with my heating system, but one of the problems is the time it takes to get up to temperature. I live alone (I'm sure you could tell!) so if I put the heating to come on at 5:30 am (20 degrees) it's still nowhere near warm by the time I leave the house at 8am. Yesterday it took 8-9…

Interior Doors
Aaaaagh!!! Completing on my first place (a flat) next week. The current owner painted all the internal doors, including tops and bottoms so they don't shut, plus with an awful finish. Anyway, in my move budget, I'd allowed around £200 for new doors (luckily I have a friend who can hang them), based on Wickes/B&Q prices for…

Cost of constantly running heating pump??
Hi guys I've identified a dodgy motorised valve on my heating system that means it works fine but just doesn't turn the pump off when it's up to temp. I have put a manual timer on the plug to the programmer so I can leave the programmer on constant heat and time the power to it. Oddly, if I leave the power off for a few…

Carpet off-cut
Hello, can someone advise us please? We had a bedroom carpet fitted earlier in the week and we were wondering if we are entitled to have had the off-cuts? Its not that we are being tight, but it was quite a large piece and it would have done an area in the garage quite nicely. thanks

Cool Radiator
Could anyone help me with this - maybe moneysaving plumber or somebody equally knowledgeable and lovely. ;) The radiator in my kitchen is not as hot as the rest of the radiators. There is no air in it. The house is less than 2 years old. Could it be the thermostatic valve that is faulty?

Piping music through the house
I'm hopefully moving soon and thought before i decorated the new house i might install one of these "through the house music" systems like you sometimes see in showhouses. Any ideas on where to start ? Each room seems to have speakers in the ceiling and a volume control on the wall.
