wet room vs shower tray & screen

Options
we are havng an extension built that will include a toilet & shower off the new utility room.

I am considering having a wet room style as opposed to installing a shower tray & screen both of which need regular cleaning & tend to look mucky after a few years - the wet room will be all tiled so the cleaning & appearance should be better

have those of you who've had wet rooms got any advice or hints on the downside of having this fitted?

we have heard of the Aqua dec system which means that the whole room won't need tanking & we can just use tiles as in an ordinary shower area

many thanx

  • We have one tiled and MIL has one which has large panels (I don't know their names). They were done at about the same time.

I would choose the largest tiles possible as the grout ages, but when cleaned properly look like new. MIL's panels have gone slightly yellow but are easier to clean (water marks don't show)

My FIL was disabled, then quite poorly and she found it a godsend when caring for him. And so much easier to clean than all the nasty corners in a shower cubicle!

I'm an occupational therapist so I get to see lots of wet rooms and lots of level acess showers (flat tray and screen) and I would choose a wet room every time. Just make sure the slope of the floor is right so that water does not get onto the floor of the next room.
  • My OH works doing Bathroom Design (local independant), PM me and he'll send you all the details. Must admit they look fantastic. Don't worry not trying to sell you anything. :o

If you can make it cheaper do so. If it's not reduced, in Primark, off ebay or free I can't have it
