British Gas Fixed
I pay by variable dd at the moment as I am on the Welcome tariff. If I change to a fix one the terms and conditions say you have to pay by dd. However does anyone know can I still pay by variable dd or does it have to be a fixed amount per month. Many thanks

Solar panels - quest
Hi, I had solar panels installed (as part of the IKEA offer) and they are fantastic... really helping keep the cost down. I am trying to get some more installed and also trying to get a solar immersion heater installed for my boiler, but I have contacted 10 companies and either they don't reply or the two replied and said…

Stuck on deemed tariff 5x higher than price cap
I have two disabled children and moved into a council adapted property last November. Their conditions mean that we use a LOT more energy than most other people. When we moved in the council 'forgot' to send off the change in responsibility forms to the energy supplier so our attempts to transfer provider were refused.…

Eon / Eon-Next : Can anyone help me
I am sorry - this is a bit of a long tale but without the history, it makes no sense. In 2018 I purchased a house and inherited old Smets1 Utilita meters. I changed energy supplier to Bulb about 6 month's later and in May 2019 they replaced my electricity meter for a Smets2 meter (single phase supply) In May 2021, I…

Wow….free electric????
I know, it won’t end up being the case but I just had to share the shocking experience so far with our energy provider! Completed on our house on 14th April and having collected the keys, arrived at the property to discover that the electrics been disconnected due to property being empty for 6 months and owners not topping…

Shell and debt
I am disabled and like many disabled people, am on a very low income. I work but am not on benefits. I have been falling behind on my energy bills as I simply cannot afford them. I already turn everything off (except fridge/freezer) at 9pm and have adjusted my waking hours so that I am awake during the daylight so as not…

PFP energy incorrect final bill and missing direct debit payment
In March, I finally received my final bill from PFP Energy. However, they have completely made up both my previous meter read and the final read, although I have supplied both and have evidence to show this, including photos of the meter readings. This means my supplier of last resort (British Gas) has been assigned a…

Current Price Cap (as of April 2022)
The general consenus appears to be not to fix if the rate is 25% more than the current typical price cap of £1971 per year detailed in the latest MSE Newsletter of May 4. (As a side note; the use of the word 'typical' is thrown around way too much nowadays - what really is typical?!) Would it be reasonable to assume that…

EDF - monthly bill half of what they suggested.
I have just moved house and have been on the variable rate which I decided to do for the time being. I spoke to EDF today , said I wanted monthly paper bills which they were fine about. Their best year fixed until 2024 was £2600. I am staying on the variable rate ( yes I know it's variable and things will change in…

Dispute with Shell- Final Bill from Green Energy
Hi has anyone else had trouble with not receiving a final bill from Green Energy? I provided final readings and wrote down my credit status of £163.33 to Green Energy on 27th Sept. They told me not to cancel the DD (which I didn't) and that everything would be dealt with via Shell Energy. I made DD payments to Green from…

Debt recovery letter from Barrett Smith & Brown
I have received an email from this above firm to recover a debt I apparently owe Utility point. I have been with utility point a few years ago before I switched and I am pretty sure I have no outstanding bills as everything was on direct debit. How do I know this is not a fraudulent email. The letter looks pretty official…

Green time?
I have been with Good Energy for over 10 years and knowingly paid more than I needed to. Karma seems to be kicking in now as my bill hasn’t increased this year being out of cap anyway. I pay £117 per month dual fuel and am building up a surplus. It is only a two up two down terrace though.

SSE smart meter not reporting gas
For the past 10 days my SSE gas meter seems not connected to to the meter network and is showing no readings on my SSE account. The little box in the kitchen shows correct usage although the status shows a network fault. Electricity is fine and showing correctly on my online usage. Probably a common problem, smart meters…

EDF smart meter lost tariff info after power cut
This morning there was a power cut in my area and since the power came back on 12 hours ago my smart meter appears to have lost its tariff info. It just says "waiting for tariff info", and on the current usage screen, "waiting for cost now". Is this something that will correct itself or do I need to raise it with EDF?

Why has the standing charge for electricity in London gone up the least?
Have been wondering this, ofgem's excuse for the rise is that the extra money is for green levys, network costs and moving people from bust suppliers. I would have thought the network costs would be largely unaffected, so the question is, why are places like scotland getting a 100% increase why places like London, standing…

Would you recommend a smart meter from Octopus energy?
I was moved to octopus from avro. Anyway like many others having to be careful with my gas/electricity usage and wondered if I should get a smart meter fitted? I hear a lot of pros and cons and hassle from them, so looking for people's opinions as to whether I should go down that route.
