ScottishPower are offering me a fixed tariff below the new cap, what am I missing?
I'm with Scottish Power coming to the end of an existing fixed-rate (end March). They've offered me (via their website) a new fix until June 2023 at unit rates slightly below the April cap (and standing charge substantially lower). Martin's advice not to pick a fixed rate that's more than 40% above the cap makes sense. So…

SMART METER QUESTIONS
Hello I live in a 1950s built house. Both my meters are in the hallway The electric meter is in a wall mounted metal cupboard with a metal door while the gas meter is on the floor in a metal cupboard with a wooden door. Also I have no power points in the hall. Does all this mean I cannot have smart meters. Also with…

Gas Boiler v ASHP for Underfloor Heating
New build bungalow and we are looking for an underfloor heating system, initial thought was ASHP, now wondering if a gas boiler would do the job cheaper and be easier to source a qualified tradesman. Has anyone used a gas boiler for underfloor heating, appreciate any thoughts on this subject.

Renewable Energy
Anyone know why my electricity bill is increasing, despite it being 100% renewable? It shouldn’t be affected by the gas price increase.

Energy standing charge almost doubled!
Hi martin, I received a letter from British gas telling me not only was my electricity rising (as expected), but that they were almost doubling the cost of the daily standing charge! So that's going to cost the best part of £5 a week for no extra fuel use on top of already not being able to afford fuel rises in the first…

Electricity increases
We have all been hit by the increases of energy costs, or will be soon, and there is a point that I don't understand. If we are charged more for units of electricity or gas, due to increased costs from international supplies, why are the standing charges increasing so much? I though the standing charge was for the ability…

Is my SSE payg standing charge excessive?
Just topped up my PAYG gas meter (SSE Standard PAYG Tariff) and it's eaten most of my credit....called SSE and was told it was Standing Charge Debt. I'm paying £1.19/day apparently over £430 just to stand still!! Is that excessive or just standard? Seems anything from 10-80p is the norm??

Price cap calculations
Is there any way to find out when and how it was announced that the price cap from 1 October would be an increase of 20%. Given what's happened today and Putin's actions how has this calculation been changed and surely all calculations for a fixed price tariff have been dramatically changed.

Tariff discrepancy

I checked my tariff 2 days ago =avro V1 I'm paying 4p kwh for gas but today looking on the citizens advice website it comparison site states the v1 rate is 3.3p whereas v2 is 4p. I checked my octopus account online today and it now states I'm on 'flexible…

Shell Energy standing charges
I have been with Shell for the past 12 months on a fixed contract and they have just notified my increase in costs with new tariffs from 1 April 2022. Following advice on the MSE website I will stay with the company but cannot understand why my standing charge is increasing by 1p per day for Gas but 22.5p per day for…

standard charge
The standard charge on gas/electricity is to cover connecting you home to the energy network, maintaining pipes etc and conducting meter readings. Can i ask why the standard charge has increased dramatically then? surely it should just be the daily rate that should be the higher increase and standard charge should stay the…

Massive hike in energy bill
Hi there - so my situation is I was due to switch energy providers just BEFORE the price increases. My quote was £72 p/m with Pure Planet (from my EDF £62 p/m). Fair enough, could live with that. However for some reason the quote didn't go through (I was getting emails stating i needed to 'confirm' something or other. I…

Shell Energy price rise
Hi, Im guessing this is a similar theme here but I was with GREEN paying about £80 a month for Gas/Elec. Green obviously folded and I am now with shell on their Flexible 6 tariff. This is costing me £130 a month and they have just said that my tariff will be changing in April to Flexible 7 which will be £198 a month! This…
