Start of Surge Pricing with Smart Meter Overhaul
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2022/02/08/smart-meter-overhaul-open-gates-surge-pricing/ According to Matt Oliver, Daily Telegraph. I suspect that this is what many of us who have so far resisted smart meters expected to come about at some stage. It will be interesting to see if smart meters become mandatory.

I *think* Octopus has offered me a decent fixed rate
My Octopus Go (cheap 4 hours overnight, used mainly for car charging) comes to an end March 22nd. They've emailed me the below offer. Based on Martin's video saying a fix would need to be 44% more than today's cap, or 59% more if we assume the cap will increase again, then I think this is a pretty good switch. I'd…

THTC price
My mother in law is on THTC using storage heaters. She lives alone and her bill for the last quarter was £1230. Can this be right? I can't concive how it possibly could. I was wondering if the heating is somehow programmed incorrectly with the heaters being charged during the day. Is this possible? Thanks Angus

British Gas (BG) possible VAT evasion on Warm Homes Discount (WHD)
BG show WHD £140.00 against the Electricity or Gas portion of your billing unlike other companies like EonNext & Octopus Energy who show it as an incoming receipt at the end of the bill. What happens is that BG show the before VAT figure as £133.34 CR then go on to calculate the VAT @ 5% on the value of Gas or Electricity…

200quid debt
Martin wrote:: """Two singles live alone in Oct, then meet. They each get a £200/yr discount, then they move in together, so they've only one bill, and it'll just have one £40/yr added. I can't remember what or if I gave readings and to whom cos it was all confusing at the time and half of my fuel was with green and other with…

Getting panicky about looming price hikes

Check your bill! SSE overcharging if tariff change is mid billing period (mine was +66%!)
If you are changing tariff on gas or electric with SSE, e.g. rolling from fixed to standard variable, then make sure you check your bill very carefully. They took an accurate smart meter reading for start and end of the billing period, but chose to use an ESTIMATED reading for the day of the tariff change, and chose a…

Stick or Twist?
