😁Hello to all of us adrift on a VERY stormy Energy Sea at the moment.😭 😶I have been a Dual Fuel Smart Meter customer of British Gas for many years now. 😶I had previously been on an already existing Fixed Energy Plan which was due to end on 30 September 2021, so it as was no surprise when I received a letter from BG…

Shock discovery about my gas hob
Whst looking in the manual for my cooker for something, I just noticed that apparently the gas consumption for the small burner is 95.2 l/h, for the 2 medium ones it is 166 but the large one is a whopping 276!! I have stopped using the large one. Every little helps, as they say.

British Gas fixed tariff - price increase
I have just joined British Gas and gone onto there fixed tariff 'home energy secure November 2023' at £66.50 per month. They have taken my first payment, however they have emailed to tell me I am not paying enough and want to raise my bill to £150 per month to compensate. I have tried contacting them but as usual no joy.…

Fixed Rate Tarriff?
I am with Eon, paying £78 per month for electric only. Eon have suggested that I go onto a variable energy plan after my fixed contract ends in November. This will be approx. £96 per month. I have searched comparison websites and I can get a fixed deal for 18 months with GEUK for £116 per month. Although that is higher…

Bills keep going up and up - changing to pay as you go metre
Hi all I am after some advice, please. Myself and my partner bought a 2 bed flat 3 years ago. When we moved into the property there was a pay as you go metre in place which we changed within a few months. We changed from OVO to e-on smart metre and set up a direct debit for £65 for gas and electricity. A year later we got…

Two final electricity bills
I switched energy suppliers from EDF to SSE in February this year. I had a final bill in April for 23 days supply from EDF for £35 which I paid. I had another final bill today (9th October 21) for £92, backdated to February 2021. Both are estimated but I sent my final readings to SSE. Should I just pay up and be done with…

British Gas Economy 7 woe
I was with PFP energy on Economy 7. They went bust and I was moved to British Gas (BG) on 4th Oct. Apr Price Promise, with Day and Night rates. Since then the Night Rate meter reading has not budged, but the Day Rate meter has flown on. I've been wading through treacle with multiple BG agents half a world away on live chat…

Price cap is meaningless and confusing
It would make more sense to refer to the maximum unit rate that suppliers can charge. That way, knowing my usage, I could calculate my expected maximum cost. To tell me the price cap is set at £1277 doesn't really help unless you include the calculation parameters.

Has anyone used electric heaters ?
Hi everyone, I am renting a flat that has storage heaters. They're very annoying - e.g., if I'm away, so can't set it the night before, then there's no heating when I'm back. On very cold days, it can start to run out of heating from about 9pm even if you charge it on highest setting the night before. However, because I'm…

Moving House/New Energy Customer
Hi. We're hoping to move to a new property hopefully before the month end or early November. Currently with Pure Planet We'll need to sign up wit a new provider at the new property I presume? Will that mean we can only chose from high/fixed price contracts? Can a new customer simply apply for a new contract that is just…

Help! Energy provider switched without my approval and in a different name - now a huge bill
Hi - I’ve been with EON since I bought my home in 2013. Last month someone came to check the meter and told we are with utilita. Ive been receiving letters from Utilita to my address (But on a different name, whom I don’t know) so had been ignoring them. Now when I checked my bank statements EON have not taken any payment…

Always check the meter reading used for final bills with a company that's gone bust !!!
In the normal run of switching energy supplier, you give a meter reading to the new supplier, they pass it on to the old supplier, and hence the same number is used as the last reading for the old supplier and the first reading for the new supplier, ensuring continuity and hence billing consistency. However, I don't think…

Is now a good or bad time to look at getting solar panels installed?!
Hi allWith all the panic about energy prices it made me wonder if not was a good time to look at solar panels, or whether it would be the worst time of their prices have also been ramped up to cash in on people panic buying them. Any thoughts?! Thanks!

Standing Charges
Might seem like a daft question, but why are standing charges rising as well as the price of Gas/Electric? I thought the charge was for the delivery of the fuels not the price increase which has happened per kilowatt or therm it seems a double whammy.

Switched but due credit
HelloI was with Igloo and started my switch to Octopus before the Energy crisis really hit. My switch went through on 26th September, but I haven't received my credit from Igloo (over £300). I've contacted Octopus, but they say Eon would deal with it. I saw that Martin Lewis advised not to switch in case you are caught in…

Contacted Scottish Power 23rd Sep from Avro + I hope helpful advice
I was with Avro for more than 3 years. Got my monthly bill down to £68 with the help of 11 solar panels. (6k) For 8 month of the year the standing charge for Gas was £5 and gas use £0.80. Lowest £0.27, hob and shower, did not need central heating in the summer. I got some tubular heaters ( £24 - £36 ) to heating small…

Help entering meter readings
Ok maybe super simple but it’s not very obvious to me. I have just switched to Scottish power from Orbit. I guess I was spoiled by Orbit’a excellent web site and communication. Well, I’m about to enter my first readings after switch to Scottish and I’m puzzled which line is the day rate and which is night rate as their web…

Warm Home Discount ...old provider
During the qualifying period this year I was in the middle of a takeover from the failed Green Network Energy to EDF. EDF have today told me that GNE did not give them the Warm Home Discount details so when EDF submitted their 'live' list of qualifying users to the Dept Of Work/Pensions...my address was not on it. I have…
