Two final electricity bills

Options
I switched energy suppliers from EDF to SSE in February this year. I had a final bill in April for 23 days supply from EDF for £35 which I paid.
I had another final bill today (9th October 21) for £92, backdated to February 2021.
Both are estimated but I sent my final readings to SSE.
Should I just pay up and be done with EDF (which I thought I was anyway) 🙄

  • The readings are obviously different on both bills. Do either match the reading you gave SSE in February? Also had you been with EDF for a while or just moved in & changed? There’s a couple of reasons why you’ve got a new bill.
  • I can't remember the readings. I thought after I'd had the first final bill I was done with EDF.
I had been with EDF for 7 years and had nothing but problems with them.
SSE are probably worse though, they haven't even set up my electricity account and I've tried ringing and messages but no one answers.
Are all energy companies the same? 🥴

Does the reading on the latest EDF bill match the opening reading with your new supplier?  If so, then this is just an admin error and all trading entities have up to 6 years to address the issue.

It is possible that EDF and SSE have been involved in a protracted Agreed Readings Dispute. All switch readings are subject to independent industry validation. The process is designed to provide as near accurate a meter reading as possible. The process looks back at your historical data and the monthly meter readings that you have no doubt provided. Until the two suppliers have agreed to use the same reading, then your new account cannot be set up.
  • Thanks for the replies.
How do I resolve this issue. I've no idea what my electricity account is costing me 😳
