Scottish Power fixed rates
Hi, I've been looking at switching my electricity, but my account is currently in debit, so I assume I would need to pay that off as a one-off payment before switching, which I can't afford to do before Christmas? I assume this debt wouldn't transfer over to the new provider? I've entered an up-to-date meter reading online…

Money Supermarket - a warning
Hello. Back in August I underwent a major operation. I knew I needed to change energy supplier by September and, although I have always gone through the energy club, for some reason(I blame it on my medication) I went through top cashback and Money Supermarket to get a British Gas deal. All seemed fine and it tracked at…

Incorrect starting readings
I purchased a property on 15th October.I took a meter reading and supplied a photograph on the 17th October of the 'Total' reading. I do have pictures of r1 and r2 but can't get access to these. I have provided proof that the 'total' is in line with the sum of the r1 and r2 readings and have provided them with numerous…

Thermostat setting - would it make any difference change the span from +-0.5 to +-0.25
I was looking at my thermostat manual and there is a dip switch setting that can change the temperature span from +-0.5 to +-0.25..it mentions changing this setting may cause your boiler to operate more frequently. At the moment it's set to 19. When the room hits 19.5 the boiler switches off, then on again at 18.5 until it…

Gas provider wants to fit a smart meter!
I am currently in the process of changing my Gas provider but a clause in their T&Cs has stalled my process. They mention that I will have a smart meter and they will be in touch to fit it! I do not want one and my electricity is paid through my landlord. Can a new Gas provider insist on this?

Very High Energy Bills - But Why..?
I was with EDF but I wasn’t able to afford it so I switched to Bulb because Bulb’s electric rate is like 12p per kWh, and EDF was like 18p p/kwh. Its a 4 bedroom house but there’s often only 3 people living here. I do have a tumble dryer but it only gets used 3x a week for 2.5 hours each. The first 1.5 months with Bulb…

Smart Meter query
If my current (old style) energy meter ever develops a fault, do I HAVE to have a Smart Meter installed or can I insist that it's replaced with an older non-Smart Meter instead? I'm just curious as I'm one of many who is getting increasingly hassled by my energy provider to have a Smart Meter installed and it wouldn't…

Switched supplier and charged by both
I had some trouble with EDF energy not being able to pay for what I used and only paying whatever they estimated regardless of our readings submitted so we decided to switch back to British Gas. This resulted in my summer months bills being £90 per month which wasn’t re-evaluated or reimbursed into a credit amount like…

Questions on LED
Q 1. I have a 4 spotlight fitting in the kitchen. Can I replace the existing bulbs with LED ones, as each fails, or must I replace all at same time? Q 2 I have seen LED bulbs rated 25 lumens, all Cool White and same fitting, but some say 4w and others 3w. Would I perceive any difference in the output and quality of each?…

BG debiting my account despite contract cancelled

On the second of this month I discovered that BG has debited my current account by the full renewal amount £451.20. They have sent me a cheque for £449.98 (£1.22 less). Has anybody had this experience before and has…

Radiators Not Working After New Valves Fitted
Hello – I’m a long time reader, first time poster, and I’d be very grateful if anyone could shed some light on what’s going on with my radiators! This is a little convoluted, so I’ll try to keep it as succinct as possible… My family recently moved into a new (rented) house. Every radiator valve was leaking, which meant the…
