Switched supplier and charged by both

I had some trouble with EDF energy not being able to pay for what I used and only paying whatever they estimated regardless of our readings submitted so we decided to switch back to British Gas. This resulted in my summer months bills being £90 per month which wasn’t re-evaluated or reimbursed into a credit amount like they suggested it would be- how do I challenge where all them months of £90 went when my energy consumption was so low?

With the switch I also appear to have paid by both suppliers this month for my energy- surely only one of them supplied my energy this month and I shouldn’t have to pay double?

Any help would be muchly appreciated

Thank you

Paying both suppliers in the same month and paying both suppliers for the same energy are two completely different things.

You need to work out how your account stands yourself, don't rely on them to do it for you.

When you switch you provide meter readings to your new supplier (in your case BG). These readings are validated by a third party and then both EDF and BG should use the same reading.

EDF should use that validated reading for your final bill and BG should adjust their billing so that your opening reading is the same validated reading.

So, once that is done, you need to check that they have both used the same reading.

EDF should send you the final within 6 weeks, and should refund you any credit balance within 2 weeks of the final bill being issued.

You then need to check that EDF refund you any credit based upon that final reading, and make sure that BG base their billing on that reading.

You don't need to challenge the DDs as such, just make sure that, if you are in credit, it is refunded to you.

Changing suppliers because they estimate bills is not sufficient reason in itself. They all will - you need to supply readings yourself.

Have you actually switched now ? If so you will have given BG a set of meter readings, These will find their way to EDF who will prepare a final bill and you will receive a credit for any over-payment (or a bill if underpaid)

Just get into the habit of reading your meter every month and save yourself this hassle.
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill
