Thermostat setting - would it make any difference change the span from +-0.5 to +-0.25

I was looking at my thermostat manual and there is a dip switch setting that can change the temperature span from +-0.5 to +-0.25..it mentions changing this setting may cause your boiler to operate more frequently.

At the moment it's set to 19. When the room hits 19.5 the boiler switches off, then on again at 18.5 until it reaches 19.5.

My understanding is that it would now come back on at 18.75 degrees and off at 19.25? Would this have any effect on gas and electric useage? Or would it equal out the same?

It could cause the boiler to switch on and off more frequently and as the boiler goes full blast when it fires up, it would probably use more gas during the start up sequence.

In the end it's something that you'd need to try an test out yourself to see whether you think it's beneficial the have the boiler switching on & off more frequently.

However that said, some boilers may be able to avoid short cycling so it may not make a lot of difference
