BG debiting my account despite contract cancelled
Hi
Last month I cancelled my HomeCare agreement with British Gas one week before it was due to be renewed. On the second of this month I discovered that BG has debited my current account by the full renewal amount £451.20. They have sent me a cheque for £449.98 (£1.22 less).
Has anybody had this experience before and has anybody received a good will payment for the inconvenience caused? This is not for my personal gain but to encourage BG to be more careful when contracts are cancelled. I am fortunate enough to have sufficient funds in my current account to not have gone overdrawn but for someone with financial difficulties, or one of the two million in fuel poverty, this could have been disastrous.
Regards

1. Have you now told your bank to cancel the BG Direct Debit (or standing order if it was one of those)?
2. Does the refund equate to the previous year's premium or was it for what they erroneously took from your account for the ongoing premium?0
