Previous flat owner unmetered water, best to stay will do window cleaning use lots?
If you are planning on making your water for window cleaning by running a hose pipe from kitchen sink to car or van. Just moved into the flat (own it) today and looking at the previous person's utility bill for water it says Wessex Water and that the water is billed using unmetered charges based on the rateable value of…

Switching tarrif Scottish power
Hi, I am currently with Scottish power on a fixed online Nov 2016, there are no exit fees. According to them if I switch to fixed Apr 2017, I will save £250, although it says my monthly payments will go down £12 a month, so I can't see how that saves £250 a year. Uswitch say I will save £213. The new tarrif will have exit…

Estimating my yearly usage when I only know my Winter usage?
Hi I'm looking at switching my energy, but all the "comparisons" (including MSE's own) ask for me to enter how much I spend a year. The thing is, I don't really know what I spend a year. I've only owned the house for ~6 months and the first 3 months (Sept, Oct, Nov) meter readings were read as one, so I can only guess at…

Energy switch
I have just contacted my supplier First Utility to upgrade my tariff. After asking the question regarding exit fees, I was informed that even though I would be staying with the same company and upgrading, that I would still be charged an exit fee as it is more than 50 days before my tariff ends. Is this normal practice?

Do Smart Meters control off-peak timing?
Can anyone tell me if smart meters control the timing of peak/off-peak on E7? I have a modern 'E7' meter with a separate clock which switches between peak and off-peak. At the moment, in Scotland, we actually get 8 1/2 hours of off-peak my concern is that changing to a smart meter may mean that the supplier now controls…

Faulty electricity meter in my favour
Hi all, I am concerned my electricity meter is faulty. We are with British Gas and a shiny brand new meter was installed last November. The meter has been read a number of times by me and by British Gas, the last time by British Gas a few days ago before my most recent quarterly bill. The bill is for the period 17th…

Incorrect meter reading bill dispute...who's responsible??
Hi, I recently bought a new build one bedroom flat for rental purposes. The previous owner had owned the flat for 5 months, but had never rented it, lived in it and eventually sold it as surplus to requirements. During this 5 months the gas boiler (35kw) had been left on frost setting with the water pre-heat meaning it…

Tariff Team energy switch collective (From free postcode lottery)
Has anyone signed up the above Tariff Team energy switch collective? Been reading up on MSEs big switch, which I know is either ending now or tonight. I read about a few other collectives but it didn't seem to mention this one? It's from the creator of the free postcode lottery website, and also gives you £30 cashback for…

I hope someone can answer this. If I am removing the bathtub do I need a hot water cylinder? The immersion heater has not been turned on in over a year! The dishwasher and washing machine are not connected directly to the hot water supply and the shower is a power shower not reliant on the hot water in the cylinder. We are…

Meter Reading for New Supplier & Current?
Hi My first time switching and I've just sent a meter reading to my new supplier (EON) and wondered if it would be a good idea to also send it to my current supplier (Npower) or will it cause problems for EON when they contact Npower. Any experienced switches out there who could advise. Many thanks

Warm home discount & switching suppliers
My dad would like to switch to Ovo for his electric and gas. He would find it much easier having a smart meter so he can top up online plus it's cheaper than his current provider. I checked online on the gov website and Ovo are now included in the warm home discount scheme which dad currently gets each year. His question…

When your comfy slippers need replacing
Good afternoon energy gurus :) Ok, the comfy slippers (British Gas) which I have worn for 35+ years (shoot me now :o ) need replacing. With what, or whom, I ask of you. I have just had a look at Martin's comparable tariffs and they all look comfy to me. How do I choose? I only use electricity and Economy 7 to boot. (Flats…
