Warm home discount & switching suppliers
My dad would like to switch to Ovo for his electric and gas. He would find it much easier having a smart meter so he can top up online plus it's cheaper than his current provider.
I checked online on the gov website and Ovo are now included in the warm home discount scheme which dad currently gets each year. His question is does he need to do anything for that to continue once he switches or will the payments just automatically come from Ovo? I wondered if he's have to apply for his discount?
He gets Pension credit and also just had a letter to say he's now able to claim his state pension. He usually gets a payment for electric and gas.
If he switches how do they know he's with ovo to pay him next December?

marieukxx - If your dad is on Pension Credit guarantee credit he should be classed by the energy companies on the scheme as a core claimant.
This means that they should automatically award him the discount (currently £140 inc VAT) without him having to claim.
However I suggest you confirm this by ringing OVO before you change suppliers - just to be on the safe side.
Suppliers on the warm home discount scheme consult the government register for eligible customers.0 -
can confirm that if your father receives the guaranteed Pension Credit the DWP provide all the information for the eligible persons as part of the WHD Core group, if he doesn't receive the guaranteed Credit he has to apply every year for the Broader group scheme. afaik this is done on a first come first served basis and opens up around April each year its been run0
