When your comfy slippers need replacing

Good afternoon energy gurus
Ok, the comfy slippers (British Gas) which I have worn for 35+ years (shoot me now
) need replacing. With what, or whom, I ask of you.
I have just had a look at Martin's comparable tariffs and they all look comfy to me. How do I choose? I only use electricity and Economy 7 to boot. (Flats do not have a gas supply, but I do yearn for my more controllable GCH
)
Thanks in advance/anticipation of your wonderfully helpful (not so helpful are welcome too) replies.

You sound like me till about 6 or 7 years ago, we'd stuck doggedly with BG for years under an illusion, yes shoot me too, that a customer of decades who always paid the bill would automatically be on the best tariff...oh boy was i in for a rude awakening.
When i did a comparison i found that lo and behold BG themselves quoted me several hundred pounds cheaper than themselves, that was an eye opener.
Well good news its dead easy to change, but you might find it dreadfully confusing out there in price land, the comparison sites search engines need to have certain boxes ticked to show all suppliers, they prefer you to go to the ones who give them a nice bung kerching, so if you go search engine keep your wits about you and be prepared to do some price checking yourself when you draw your own shortlist up.
Also the big suppliers may not be the best to deal with.
We've ended up with two relatively small suppliers, ZOG for gas and my only complaint is that they don't supply electric or they'd be supplying that now cos they is lovely to deal with.
And we've just transferred onto Robin Hood Energy for electric, who are very friendly to deal with and have already sorted out, helpfully and no problems doing so, an address of meter problem we've had for the last 14 years which no one else could.
Whether their price structure would be good for you i don't know, all you can do is input your usage and see what companies pop up, RH are very down to earth on the phone which is a big plus to me.
BG will never see another penny of my loot as long as i breathe, but i accept it was my fault because i foolishly assumed they would have some care of customer ethos, how stupid am i.

I would give this a quick look. Even companies with the best results have unhappy customers, and even companies with the worst results have happy customers. But, to me, this is a good guide to customer service.
Extra Energy are definitely to be avoided. Co-op Energy, Scottish Power and Npower all have a lot of unhappy customers.
Others will no doubt disagree, but I'd happily pay a few quid more to sign up with a company with a good reputation for customer service.0 -
Thanks all for you input/advice/help.
Gilbert and/or sullivan, I am going to follow your lead and go with Robin Hood. Why? Why not?Not particularly looking for the cheapest (cheap is always dear in the long run) but am looking for good customer service, and your praise is good enough for me. I am very easily pleased
Thanks again - off to Sherwood Forest we go xxx

As you're not used to switching, you might not be aware of the importance of meter readings at this stage. Provide BG with meter readings on a weekly basis, then the day right before your actual switch rate. Doing this can help avoid any nasty cans of worms being opened.0
