What is OVO like for their payg smart meters?
I just did the switch online for my dad. Eon to Ovo but now I'm reading bad things about Ovo. I can't seem to find much about anyone who has switched and is pay as you go. I have chosen a smart meter to be installed and picked the date as that's the main reason we'd like to switch. being able to top up online is handy for us.
Anyone here have a smart pay as you go meter with them?

Have a look at yesterdays magicguitarmans post on moving from Ovo.
Ovo s smartprepayment meter is fine until you want to rid yourself of Ovo. The Liberty Secure smart prepayment meter can , or is supposed, to be able to be switched to credit meter mode, if Ovos credit meter criteria is passed. If the auto top ups fail, as they may do, you are then faced with adding credit manually imputing either a 20/40/60 digit code at the right speed. Try that under the stairs holding a torch.
Talk your dad away from the very high standard tariff prepayment rates if you can.0 -
From what i have heard OVO smart meters are very handy with regards to Prepayment customers due to the ability to top online. Certainly seem to have had less teething troubles than other Smart suppliers. As Sasquacco has said most of the problems appear to revolve around switching away from OVO as your supplier. Mainly due to the fact the other suppliers don't support the Key you would use to top up the meter. So they have to install one of their standard meters instead, meaning another appointment. Standard Credit meters are the better option as they give you more alternatives for the tariff you can choose as Prepayment prices are no better than the expensive Standard Credit prices0

They didn't have any tariffs to choose from when I did the switch online. I just assumed pay as you go didn't have tariffs.Swagbucks - £150 / Dooyoo - £20

You probably joined them as a prepayment meter customer. To get access to much lower tariffs Ovo would have to switch the meter to credit meter mode remotely. It can be done, maybe they like to keep you on the rip-off tariff of a prepayment meter. Phone them up and enquire. Credit checks may be done though. Once on a credit meter you can then get the direct debit one/two year fixed tariffs usually much lower.0
