Energy switch
I have just contacted my supplier First Utility to upgrade my tariff. After asking the question regarding exit fees, I was informed that even though I would be staying with the same company and upgrading, that I would still be charged an exit fee as it is more than 50 days before my tariff ends. Is this normal practice?

Yes, some companies charge for switching to another of their own tariffs, other companies do not. You always have to check this as the switching fees advertised normally just relate to switching to another provider.0
