Moving House
I have just joined the forum and hoping that you kind people can help. I currently purchase my gas and electricity from First Utility on their "iSave Fixed April 2017" tariff but I am moving house and had assumed my account would move with me. Apparently this is not the case my current account has to be closed and a new…

I've just bought a house...
I've never previously bought or rent and I'm looking at gas, electric and water and I don't have a clue. The previous owner had British Gas but I don't know if there the cheapest or how to work out how to find the cheapest. I'm a single person living in a 2-bed terrace. Anyone any advice? Much appreciated :D

I wonder if EON owes me money.
So I have quite the story for you folks and it might give you a good reason to go digging though your previous bank statements. In 2009 I went into a contract with EON as my electricity provider. My monthly bills came to £167 a month for a single person living alone with no electric heating. I used LPG/Kerosene. I tried to…

Received 2 refund cheques
From an energy company last week for money they'd held onto years after I moved to a new supplier The cheques have different numbers but are for the same amount. Morally, I should shred one of them - but what would you do?

No one will install fire
Hi guys I purchased a second hand Bellfire Horizon XL and have called all local installers. They either come out and say "it's too big, I've never done a fire like this and won't risk it" or say "as you never brought the fire from us, we won't install it". I live in Derby and wondered if anyone knows who would be willing…

Discuss: Consumers will never get a fair deal from the Big Six
The Sunday Post are really going to town on the energy companies. New analysis and a survey on their website this morning. "Consumers will never get a fair deal from the Big Six energy firms unless their stranglehold on the market is weakened."…

Moneysaving Energy Club
I completed the switch for my gas on 18 November and today I was credited with the cash back. I thought I would have to wait for weeks but obviously a lot quicker now. Gives me confidence to find a new supplier for my electricity.

Roughly how many kW does a boiler use when ticking over?
Just a quick question for those in the know. I have a Vaillant ecotec 428 and I am wondering roughly how many KW of power the boiler is using on heating when it is ticking over to maintain the set system temperature.

Changing a light switch.
Now my old light switch is a manky old corroded gold job, I want to change it for a simple plastic one, its a 2 Gang, 1 switch does the porch light (1-way) the other does the Hall (2 way). Now reading from the back, L-R Top first, the old switch has a single block C-L1-L2(L2 empty) L1 L2 C. But the new switch has 2 Y…

British Gas Smart Meter
I am due to have smart meters installed. My gas and electric meters are set in the wall of my bungalow. Do they actually replace the whole meter or just make an adjustment? I realize I will have a small monitor in the house that needs to be plugged in. Is anyone happy with their smart meter? Your thoughts would be…

Central heating & 3 storey house
Hi. Just after a bit of advice. Trying something new with the heating this winter. Usually we normally have all the radiators switched on full (when needed of course) and the thermostat on about 22. Problem is that the bottom floor is quite cold. For us to be able to warm the bottom floor enough, we have to ramp up the…

British Gas - final bill
I wonder if anyone else has had a similar experience, and what did they do? British Gas have sent me a letter saying they didn't take my last direct debit from a house I vacated in March 2013. Further on in the letter it says this was due to a glitch in their system, hence no reminders. is it worth querying this?

Rented flat, central heating
Hello, all (and apologies if this is in the wrong place / an over-asked question). I live in a rented ground floor flat (private landlords through an estate agents) that has no central heating and no boiler; I have an old electric immersion heater. I've been looking through some of the threads / Google-searched websites…

Eon Heatwise Energy Plan??
I have not long moved to a property which is Electric Only and so has storage heaters. The tariff I have is called Heatwise Energy Plan which I understand is specifically for houses with storage heaters but I do not really understand it or know if I am on the best plan giving me the cheapest tariff and control. I have no…

Smart Meter - OVO
I got pestered by OVO to have smart meters installed. I was indifferent to the change other than the downside of a day off work hanging about for the installers. The company that did the installation was Lowry Beck, they turned up on time, made no mess and seemed very good, I was happy with it all. But this was mid August,…

Letter & Cheque from BG re. Dual Fuel
I received a letter from British Gas yesterday saying that I am no longer eligible for dual fuel discount as I have switched supplier for electricity (I have not), attached was a cheque for £6 for the days they calculated I was entitled to. (Cheque in the wrong name as they have never managed to get my name right since…

Boiler confusion
I have a 20 year old gravity system Baxi boiler that is working fine even though I have never had the boiler serviced. We have a cylinder tank that is also well lagged. I live in a 4 bedroom house with 1 bathroom and 1 ensuite. 4 adults live in my house, we all work different shifts so the water can be used from 5am to 9pm…

No bill, no prospect of a bill....
so I'm off. Gas has been with SP for six months but they can't produce a bill, nor can they tell me when they will produce one in the future. However, I have been told that they will produce one when I leave, so I'm leaving. If history is anything to go by, the likelihood of getting a correct bill is pretty much zero, but…

shocking electric bill
About 3 months I was notified by Npower that my direct debit for gas and electricity was increasing from £39 to £5,431 per month. Despite speaking to 6 different agents and assured that the mistake would be investigated and then resolved, this week they have taken £566 from my current account without warning me. I ve been…
