Utility Switching websites - BEWARE
You have to be careful with nearly all these websites. If you do use them make sure you fully check your existing and proposed tariffs I have found out today that many are not up to date, Which? and Simply Switch, and worst was Energyhelpline.... The very website cited as excellent by this website! Energyhelpline didn't…

Student Utility Bills
Hi, I'm looking to get a two bedroom student house/flat next year and was wondering if anyone could help me with the cost of utilities. How much would it roughly cost for everything (gas, electricity, water) then i can try and work out my budget. Any other tips would be helpful too. If it makes a difference we will be…

Silly Season with nPower
This is a mixed post - part rant, and part head-scratching mystery. I have both gas and electric with one supplier. However, it seems the supplier is actually two unconnected organisations pretending to be a coherent entity. Here's the story. Last year, late summer, I started getting collection agency notices for my…

EDFWarmwise electricity costs rises
Our electricity is supplied by EDF and we are currently on Warmwise tariff which is similar to Economy 10. This provides us with cheaper electricity to run storage heaters overnight with an additional 'charge-up' during the afternoon. EDF have sent us an annual projection today which shows instead of the increase in cost…

Hi! I'm in the process of purchasing my first home where I will be living on my own to start off with, probably getting a lodger in a few months. It's a 3 bed semi built in 2009. The old owners were/are with british gas. I have no idea what sort of tariff to go for (although I want dual fuel) having not owned a house…

Calculators give opposite results
Why is it that the Cheaper Energy Club calculator shows that switching to Npower will save me £53 per month, whilst going to the Npower web site calculates that it will cost me £59.44 per YEAR MORE. They both end up with the same Energy Online tariff but such a big difference. There's a big discrepancy there somewhere.…

Does anyone else have to rely on oil heating?
We hear a great deal (not a "great deal") about problems with the pricing of electricity and gas. Consider the poor households that have to rely on oil (usually kerosene), they are much much more dependant on the volatile wholesale price of oil than the other energy sources. Let's get together to make our policy makers…

I have today received a notice saying I have not paid my gas/leccy bill despite numerous letters. This is the first letter I have received and paying it is not an issue. Magnetic Generator- Is it a Fraud Or is it For Real?
There seems to be a few so called perpetual motion Magnetic generators around for DIY completion. A green alternative to electricity and saving or just on big con? And if not a con why isn't it being used in industry and Power suppliers? Anyone know any more . there are quite a few Youtube links explaining the principles…

British Gas is installing key meters after taking over tenancy - bad credit rating?
Hi I read lil bit through here and got my first problem/question solved - apparently pay as you go meters are not more expensive than DD payments (small % discount excluded). That's fine. But I'd like to know what prompt them to install the key meters after my simple call that I'm a new tenant. I found out that the…

4 year old Boiler no paperwork
Hello All, I had a boiler replaced about 4 years ago by what was a non corgi\gas safe engineer. The Boiler which is a Baxi has served me well but has recently started making a noise and I would like to get this serviced and fixed. While doing some research I noticed that in Scotland you do not require to notify the local…

£65 Gas bill in less than 3 weeks in a cottage!
I have recently moved into my first house. It's a small, quaint, 2 bedroom cottage. It has 6 radiators in total and a gas fire and the hob on the cooker is gas. It is a 200 year old cottage with old style small windows (single glaze). Admittedly, it's been freezing since we moved in and so the heating has been on each…

HELP! I want to pay my bill!
Ok so I'm with EDF energy and in November last year I had my meter swapped from a prepayment to a credit meter. Even since then, they have failed to update my account with the new meter details, hence I have been unable to setup a direct debit to pay or set up any sort of payment plan. I know at the end of this I will be…
