npower direct debit reduction?

This was increased from £70 per month 6 months ago. My account is £130 in credit and my latest statement predicts I will use…

Can't give final gas meter reading as digital meter's battery has died
Hi, I recently moved gas & electricity supplier from SSE to Npower (which was a nightmare in itself, but that's another story... ;) ) and when I went to check the first gas reading to give to Npower, I found that the battery in the digital gas meter (we were on SSE's smart meter trial) had died and the screen blank.…

Good deals as a *new* customer
Hi all I am finding this very difficult. I have just moved into a completely different type of property than I've ever lived in and I've no idea how to find a good deal on utilities. All of the comparison sites, as well as main supplier pages I've visited, ask about previous bills and usage, as though I'm switching…

Help!!! MASSIVE direct debit increase
Hi All I moved house last May and kept my energy supply with Scottish power as I thought they were OK. I paid £150 a month for my previous house for dual fuel. I moved to a much bigger, older house and when I moved they suggested I pay £86 a month. I questioned this at the time on the phone as I thought this was asking for…

New Gas Mains 32kwh?
So after National Grid asking for £18000 to install gas mains I've found a utility infrastructure provider who will do it for 1/4 of that. My only concern is the capacity of the mains which is 32kwh, is that enough to run a boiler with 9 rads? And also possibly a cooker, although we are happy to stick with electric should…

Do you really save money by submitting meter reading?
Hi quick question regarding the electricity/gas meter submitting option that British gas/electricity give me, I remember a while back getting an estimated bill of £303 pounds and figured might as well submit the readings and get a more accurate and hopefully lower bill. Ended up coming to £343 with the new bill ! So I have…

Portable heaters & thermostats
This is a simple question, but one I'd like an answer too, based on experiences or maths, rather than "hunches"! Say you've got a 2kW oil filled radiator, with a thermostat, and 3 heat settings. Say you set the thermostat halfway. In terms of electricity consumption, does it matter what heat setting you use? 800W, 1200W,…

Electric heating vs Storage heaters and cost.
Hi, I need some advice to the advantages of storage heaters as opposed to electric heaters. I live in a block of flats and gas isn't installed throughout so the only form of heating is electric. At the moment we have standard convector heaters which don't blow out enough hot air and as soon as we turn them off the heat…

MoneySupermarket Cashback - Too good to be true? Maybe...
Moneysupermarket.com offers cashback (in my case £30) to switch energy suppliers. "Really easy" they say, "no need to do anything, it will just appear in your bank account". I ask "Do you send a confirmation email?". "No, it will just appear in your bank account" they say. Yeah right. Luckily I was forewarned by…
