New electricity bill after I've settled my accounts

Hi all,
I'm a new member for this forum, so please apologies if I'm not in the right thread.
I've moved out from my previous rented property on August 2012 and i have settled my electricity bills with EON prior to my house move. I've paid £88 in total to settled my bills and everything was OK till last week.
Last week, all of a sudden i've got a debt collectors notice on behalf of EON to pay a overdue bill of £820.00. Prior to my last house move, I've settled all my bills and now they asking for me to pay £820.00. How can I dispute this??
I would highly appreciate your valuable thoughts with regard to this matter.

Thanks,

Do you still have any bills with readings from August and earlier? Did you check the readings at the time (or even a quarter or two earlier)? You will have to ask Eon for the readings that account for the debt as those will not be included in the letters from the debt collector (or even, usually, in final bill demands).

(Contact Eon, not the debt collectors.)

I don't know if it is just the way you have written it but I don't understand how you can pay the final bill before your house move.
  • Thanks for your kind help.
I've moved out in Aug 2012 and paid my bill in Oct 2012. At that time outstanding bill was only £88, so I've paid it. I did my meter reading when I moved out of this house and then they sent me a bill for £88 and Ive paid accordingly...

If you gave them a reading and it was the same reading on the bill you paid you will have to contact them for an answer as none of us can tell you. It could be a few different reasons but first point is to check the last bill you paid.

Have you checked the readings and dates on the bill you paid and the current bill are correct?

    Morning eroaero,

    Already some good info here.

The first thing to do is to contact E.ON and ask exactly what has gone on.

Did the last bill you paid of £88 say final bill on it? Was this billed up to the date that you actually moved out and the final meter reading you gave?

Did you have gas and electricity with us? If you had both did you pay both and give readings?

I can't really give a specific answer without seeing the account.

I will be more than happy to help you with this if you'd like me to, just email your details to me.

    Helena :)

I'm not good in determining like this kind of matter for I don't have experienced it on my home. I think you should compare the reading on your meter and of the bill, they might be mistakenly calculated your consumption. On the other hand, you should always check and analyze your electric bill before you pay. There might be some dilemmas and might not noticed it. Additionally, you should find some information to the EON over this matter. :)

As the Eon rep says, you need to contact Eon to find out what has gone on.

It could be as macman suggests, that is is a result of a disputed meter reading. But we are all just guessing.

The only way to find out is to contact eon.
If, after you have contacted them and they have explained what has gone on, you have more questions, please feel free to post again and we can advise further. :)
