Can I switch to same provider and get cashback

Options
Hello

I am with npower on the standard tariff and pay quarterly. I can save quite a lot if I switch to Spark (but I think it could be false economy from what I have read) next best is npower online and pay by direct debit

Would I be able to get cashback by switching or is it not switching?

Thankyou

No. Why would a supplier pay you a cashback just to switch tariffs? Cashbacks are to attract new customers.
    You''re right about Spark though.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Where are you hoping to get cashback from?
Refer to the terms of the cashback site if from one of those.
If it's a comparison site, then if you can switch via the comparison site, then you will get the cashback - if not, you won't

Don't believe all you read on the internet, especially by newbies. Do your own reseach. You'll find bad reports about every energy supplier on the internet if you look. This is a moneysaving site and if you can save money money, go for it!
  • Is anyone ok with Spark? as I can find no one happy I could save over £1000 by changing to them

No personal experience of Spark - though, in common with masses of people & organisations I don't think much of Npowers customer service - but I'd have to wonder at a £1000 saving - you know what they say about if it looks too good to be true it usually is!

    £1000 saving?
    :rotfl:

Another perfect example of not to trust everything you can read on the internet
  • Thanks for all your replies

I know it seems a big saving but you pay up front and I am not sure what might happen as they might hugely overestimate my usage and charge me large direct debits and change the tariff ( i have read that people cant change once they are with them)

My predicted cost for the next year for gas and electric are £4000 I have not changed for a long time and have never paid by direct debit before. I have got to do something

Unless you live in a large stately home, that figure cannot possibly be correct. Care to post your current tariff, annual kWh figures and region so someone can verify it?
    No tariff is 25% cheaper.

    Here goes

Current provider is npower standard tariff for both electric and gas

    Location N Yorks

    Pay quarterly

N Power have calculated I use over year (on bill)

    12644kw electricity
    47011kw gas

they predict I will spend £2022.26 on elec and £1966.28 on Gas

before I got this last bill I put my consumption in comparison websites I put in 13409kw for elect and 44058kw for Gas as I have a spreadsheet that I have tracked consumption since 2004

My electricity consumption back in 2008 was about 9000kw per year

I live in a 3 story 7 bed period semi exposed to very harsh winds on coast
we have central heat on morn and night when kids in. (switch off overnight) We only live in ground and second floor. The heat in the house barely gets to comfortable I am lucky to get any room to 17 - 18 as the ceilings are high and large rooms with large windows there is some secondary glazing.

I have one gas effect fire that is high efficiency and gives some heat

my boiler (conventional) is a output 17.6 - 20.5 and feeds 19 rads on the three floors which is a job so we have the ones up stairs off and some of the others most are single hence it is not much good

I have hot water set to heat twice a day

I have to have the heat come on early just so it will chug its way all round the system otherwise it doesnt get to some rads

The boiler is 13 years old and some rads are springing leaks so are off I want to address heating in the near future

    we have electric single oven
    hob gas
    freezer
tumble drier use once a month
had a oil fired rad in kitchen as rad sprung a leak (only on a very low setting)

Having said all that the house is fantastic in summer lovely and cool!!

I dont get my electic consumption as we are a family of four who are basically in a four bed house arn,t we

The above would cost you £3148 on nPower Energy Online August 2014

With Spark you could only save an additional £357 p.a (paying £2791 p.a)

You could save £1000 and more by reducing your consumption.

The average household consumes 16500kwh of gas (you appear to be using almost 3x this amount) and 3300kwh of electricty ( and you are using almost 4x this amount, and about 1/3 more than you were 3-4 years ago)

But I'll call an end here as you clearly don't take the advice others have taken the time & trouble to offer you.

  • Thanks for your reply and the telling off

And this does show how much I procrastinate. I did get the meter changed to one though and now I fully intend to get one of those plug in meter to try and work out where it is all being used and try and get the whole family involved in cutting this down as there is no excuse for the electricity.
