4 year old Boiler no paperwork
Hello All,
I had a boiler replaced about 4 years ago by what was a non corgi\gas safe engineer. The Boiler which is a Baxi has served me well but has recently started making a noise and I would like to get this serviced and fixed. While doing some research I noticed that in Scotland you do not require to notify the local authority of the install but I take it you still need some gas safe paperwork. Now that I am aware of all this I just want to make things right and get the boiler back to it's old self. Does anyone have any advice on what I should do? I'm concerned that if I phone up npower for a service they will say my boiler is not gas safe and I'll be in bother.
Cheers,
R

no decent RGI will sign off someone elses work & GSR highly frown upon it, just get it serviced if it doesn't meet the regs or it is dangerious then you will know & if it gets shut off then it serves you right for using a cowboyI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -
If it's 4 years old the boiler may still be in warranty (many boilers come with a five year warranty these days). So I'd call Baxi and check if it's registered and still covered-or was ever covered.
So if the boiler was badly installed and potentially lethal, you are not bothered?
Where do Npower come into the picture? No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

It appears the OP is bothered and plans to ask nPower to carry out the service of the appliance.0 -

The horse has already bolted.
Not yet. The OP appears to still be alive and presumably the house is still standing.
Or are you recommending the OP never bothers having the appliance serviced?
Perhaps the stable door is currently open, but the horse still appears to be inside presently0 -

I'm suggesting the OP was negligent in the first instance by not using a GSR installer to fit the boiler 4 years ago. He/she has not mentioned has the boiler serviced in the intervening years.
I recommend annual boiler servicing on the grounds of safety, meeting warranty terms &conditions and moneysaving in the long-term.
Btw...the horse probably became burgers/ready meals at well known grocery retailers.0 -

He's apparently only bothered about the fact that they might disconnect it as unsafe. Not that it may already be unsafe due to a bodged install.
Just realised that even if it was ever under warranty, the warranty will now be invalid, as it hasn't had an annual service. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Hi rh70,
I have spoken to our Hometeam and they have advised that you contact Gas Safe and get them to visit your property.
If the boiler hasn't been installed correctly, then they need to investigate the engineer.
You can then have any remedial work based on their report.
Hope this helps,

yes roger very true however if it was installed by someone who isn't GSR & the benchmark book wasn't filled out (& it can't of been because they couldn't do it) then the warrenty was null & void from day 1, thats the price you pay for trying to get a cheap job & not using a RGII'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

Well legally the fact that the boiler was installed by a non gas safe eng is not neccessarily a problem. If the installer has the ACS competency certificates and has not done the job for financial reward (longshot I know) he does not have to be registered.
The majority of installs I come across don't have the building regs certificate, just the benchmark. I have spoken to loads of installers who work independently and for companies who just don't bother. It is held in contempt by many for the money making scam it is.
Npower wont give a monkeys about it but if you are desperate for it you can get building regs officer to give it a quick look over and a certificate for about 250 quid.0
