I had a combi boiler installed about 5 years ago. A Saunia. (not my choice, the plumbers )It has been fine till now, but i had to have it repaired 4 weeks ago, same plumber as installed it. 2 weeks after the repair it went again, different problem the plumber said although it was never right after the first repair that cost me £250.
It will now cost me anothre approx £100 for the plumber(maybe a conservative estimate ) and £114 that i had to pay for the part that was needed as he couldn't get it locally and had to be on-line, but the plumber didn't have a credit card. Nearly £500. Needless to say i am going ballistic. I know these things happen and my plumber is legit as i have looked him up online
However i feel i might as well have taken a gas contract out 5 years ago so want to do that now.We are in our 70s and really don't want all this hassle again.
Any reconsiderations as to the best ones would be appreciated. Thanks

What you are looking for is a boiler or CH maintenance and repair contract-basically an insurance policy. Not a gas contract.
I'd look for cover with a local independent RGI, rather than the nationals. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Just going off the subject of maintenance contracts, how much did you pay for the installation?
You say he's legit but I don't know many RGI's who install Saunia Duval boilers unless they are A: trying to maximise their profit B: fitting them for a landlord who is trying to maximise their savings!
They're a dire boiler and not very reliable!0 -

About £2000. Had no trouble for 5 years.Didn't even know it was a Saunia, he hs put it in a really inaceesable place and we can get to it but it is just so hard now, a hands and knees job. Came about 4 weeks ago as no hot water and it cost £250 to repair, still didn't work properly and he said it was a different fault and i had to order the part £114. Will have to pay to have it fitted now.
We are both nearly 80 so have no chance of knowing if he is overcharging us. Which is why we now want to take a maintenance contract out. I do tend to trust him though.0 -

Boilers have an average lifespan of 15 years before replacement so you should still have quite a few years left in it.
If you aren't sure whether he is overcharging then google the part number yourself....or post the part number on here and an expert will look it up for you.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

Hi sorry to hear about your problems with your boiler. I was in exactly the same situation with my Vokera boiler I was using a local gas engineer for any problems and it was £100 here and £ 50 there for repairs to it until I called out other gas engineers in the area under the gas safe register and one of them told me that Vokera charged a one off fee of £250 for any repair inclusive of all parts and labour. I was also informed by one of the engineers that I needed a new fan so I could tell the Vokera engineer exactly what was needed so I got my moneys worth as the fan cost over £100 . Maybe your boiler company does the same. I know British gas do a fixed fee repair scheme, so there may well be others. Good luck and by the way since my repair boiler has been running like a dream . Hmm it sounds to me that this engineer doesn't know how to fault find properly!
I have had to follow a similar engineer to properties before, a landlord I work for uses both of us but he constantly changes multiple parts claiming that there was more than one fault, he got caught out when I diagnosed the fault and he got it completely wrong and started clutching at straws wanting to change parts the fault had nothing to do with. Please don't waste anymore money on this guy and try someone else, preferably someone used by a friend who recommends him.
Just as HappyMJ has said you can price the parts yourself quite easily, you maybe quoted more as Joe Public but I'll happily price a part for you from my local parts centre.0
