How soon should I apply to switch

Current deal with EDF ends 31st March this year. Going to switch suppliers but I don't want to incur early exit penalties. Question then is, how soon before my current deal ends should I sign up with another supplier.

Any time after 7/3 will be fine. Typical switch time is 3-5 weeks.No free lunch, and no free laptop
