September 2010 I started the switch to Scottish Power from EDF. On the day of the switch over, I gave my meter readings as requested. Approximately 2 months later (End Dec\Start of Jan), I received my final bill from EDF (£480). BUT they had used estimated readings. I contacted them to give the correct readings again. They…

EDF Energy DD increased by 40% after 8 Days - Is this a record?
My new electricity contract started with EDF Energy on August 30. This morning I received a letter dated 8 September stating my account had been "reviewed" and my new direct debit would be 40% more than the figure I signed up for. What usage data can this possibly have been based on? I've only given them an opening reading…

how many utility companies do we need???
Having watched many TV debates on utility bills and the number of "plans" they offer I keep waiting for someone to ask this question: "What is the optimum number of utility companies we need to provide the cheapest services???" If there was only one company and one price would it be cheaper than it is now??? I seem to…

Storage Heaters for the lazy programmer?
I have recently moved into a flat in a listed building that has some 30 year old storage heaters that need replacing. I am investigating getting gas central heating but I am pretty sure that it will not be possible within a reasonable budget as there is nowhere that a flue can exit the flat without upsetting the…

Electricity Meter Glass smashed...help.
Our builder (bless him) broke the glass panel on the front of our leccy meter on Friday, while swinging some wood or something round in the garage (sorting out ceiling/joists to create storage above in pitched roof). Now, I've phoned British Gas to say what's happened, and at first they said, oh sure, we can arrange for a…

Switching to BG for free insulation

However, I understand that they are offering free cavity and lost insulation to customers at the moment. Going through Atlantic I have had a quote for £260 total for both. Not on…

Paying in advance
Is it legal for me to provide inflated meter readings in order to get part of my future gas and electric use at the current (lower) price? The way I see it, I am several £100 in credit with my account so in effect I have already bought ahead of the price increases. Views would be appreciated.
