Record breaking utility bills? Advice on renewables etc please
Ok, not actually for me but for my parents - I was horried to hear about this and really wanted to help for both financial and environmental reasons. For combined gas/electric they're paying £400 PER MONTH! Can anyone beat that? This isn't a one-off 'this winter' thing, it's what they've been paying direct debit…

Quarterly Bill quandary...
I pay my Scottish Power gas bill quarterly. They send me the bill and I pay it without delay. And they have always arrived exactly when they should do - except for this quarter - it's several days late. My question, therefore, is should I chase them up or just wait until it appears? This has never happened before and I…

EDF will only let me have a business tariff....is this right???
A communal hallway with 1 lightbulb (in a house containing 3 rented flats). I pay about £100 a year for this because EDF say this account for the one lightbulb has to be separate from the 3 flats and cannot be held in one persons name which means that it has to be a business account incurring higher tariffs. Is this…

Utility company payment request
Having moved into my new house last May, I transferred my British Gas account (gas & elec) to the new address immediately. There was a 6-8 week period while the providers were swapped over during which we were still being supplied by the last owners supplier (Southern Electric). Shortly after, a series of letters arrived…

Comparing Historic Energy Prices
Hi, wondering if there is a way of calculating how much I would have paid in gas/leccy over the last two years had I been with a different supplier? I've just changed from a provider who was supposed to guarantee the lowest prices to a new firm who are significantly cheaper. I can use the new firms current prices to…

Question about 'Energy Efficient' electric heaters
Hi, I just wondered whether anyone could enlighten or advise me on something. I've seen some halogen heaters advertised on the Independent newspaper site, and they're BOGOF. They're supposedly energy efficient and most importantly, hot. Now, The Indy is a very environmentally conscientious paper, so I'm more inclined to…

Standard tariff rates from 2008

I'm sure everyone has seen the adverts recently - if you're a British Gas customer you can now earn Nectar points when you pay your bill... in theory! Has anyone managed to successfully link their accounts? I keep getting "our system is having a bit of trouble" messages every time I check my account. I phoned British Gas…

Dodgy claim
I received a letter from eon, my electricity supplier, advising a price increase of "9% for the majority of standard residential customers". Being cautious I checked the figures supplied and found that the increase on primary units is 5.57% but on secondary units (which form around 80% of my usage volume) it is 14.7%. When…

Hi, I have just moved into a flat, it has the pre-pay gas and electric meters in. The electric seems to be fine but the gas is costing a fortune and only been in the flat 6days!
