Final Account Refund Problem

Hi,
Not sure if i'm posting this question in the right place but I'll give it a go!
I've recently recieved a letter form my previous but one energy supplier informing me that when they settled my final account they refunded me the credit amount twice.
They now inform me that they require me to pay this back, as this was well over a year ago and have twice changed energy supplier since, am I still legally required to pay this back?
I don't know if there is any legislation in place that I can use so I don't need to pay it back,ie, they were at fault, it was quite some time ago etc.
I can't actually remember them doing this, and as it was well over a year ago I don't have any of their bills and letters or bank statements going back that far.
Hope someone out there can help me.

Do you accept an error was made? Check your bank details if necessary.
I'm sure the supplier will be pleased to supply details of the double credit if you really don't recognise it as such.
If you agree an error was made, you must know it's not rightfully your money so why don't you think you should repay it?"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Ask them to prove it. They must have found something that tells them they did so and I'd think you have every right to see their evidence. If it doesn't all look right to you then don't pay it.0
