Dodgy claim
Options
I received a letter from eon, my electricity supplier, advising a price increase of "9% for the majority of standard residential customers". Being cautious I checked the figures supplied and found that the increase on primary units is 5.57% but on secondary units (which form around 80% of my usage volume) it is 14.7%. When I queried the figures with eon they claimed that 9% was correct as an average, which they had arrived at by adding together the two percentages then dividing by 2 !!! Checking on different quarterly usages I found that my cost increase would be very variable, being over 11% on the lowest usage and 13.76% on the highest.
OK, the cost of any power form is skyrocketing but this spurious '9%' claim seems like playing games with facts.
However I am unable to change suppliers because eon came out cheapest for me on two comparison sites!!

Hi Full Sail,
The percentage increases announced to the Press in January were based on the average energy consumption of a typical residential household on our standard tariff.
Average consumption figures used were those advised by Ofgem.
Not everyone will see increases exactly as per the announcement. Some will see more, some less depending on the product.
It sounds like your percentage increase looks higher as you are currently on a better tariff than our Standard.
Hope this explains things a bit more.
